Administrative Assistant

The City of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is a beautiful and thriving community of 44,678 located at the foot of Lake Winnebago. We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of within the City Attorney/ Human Resources Department. The position is under general supervision to perform all duties necessary in maintaining legal, employee and other Human Resources records and files.

Work involves handling a variety of confidential documents and information and the incumbent is expected to exercise the highest level of judgement and discretion regarding the content, accuracy, and completeness of information. There is interaction with department/division heads, employees and the public. Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Employee has opportunities to make a positive impact on the local community as well as future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.

Duties include:

  • Providing general administrative support for the City Attorney and Human Resources Departments in the areas of law (i.e. contracts, open meetings, public records, claims), municipal court, recruitment, and benefits.

Knowledge and abilities include:

  • Knowledge and experience in the utilization of computer applications including Microsoft Office products and social media technology required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and close partnership with legal and systems partners in handling confidential legal and human resources matters and proceedings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in applying rules, policies and procedures, and stay apprised of State and Federal labor laws that effect Human Resources policies and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret contract language, policies, procedures, and statutes.
  • Ability and experience in personally preparing effective written reports and correspondence, and delivering effective oral communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and employees required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City elected and appointed officials, employees, and the public required.
  • Ability to maintain regular adequate attendance.

Desirable Training and Experience:

High school graduate with three to five years administrative assistant experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SALARY RANGE: We offer a competitive compensation package ($23.32 – $26.65/hour) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
