City of Bloomington, IN is Hiring a Technology Support Specialist Near Bloomington, IN

Description

Incumbent performs preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshoots computer systems and peripheral equipment, and provides end-user support throughout the City. Assists in the maintenance of City of Bloomington workstation assets, and provides purchasing and inventory support.

Duties

This job description is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all job functions performed. The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation:


Essential (Primary)
Provides ongoing end-user support of hardware and software, and answers questions. Troubleshoots problems, contacting hardware and software vendors when necessary. Provides localized, personal training in the use of information technology hardware and software.
Responds to telephone, e-mail, walk-in, and helpdesk system trouble tickets. Calls are entered into the system tracking system. Provides preventative maintenance on existing desktop computers, printers, and peripheral equipment.
Configures and deploys new information technology equipment.
Administers the removal of old information technology equipment.
Researches products and requests quotes for user technology solutions.
Receives, verifies, and records items shipped to the ITS department. Maintains accurate inventory on all items received or installed.
Ensures all applicable City financial and purchasing policies are followed.
Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves problems and institutes preventative measures to prevent further occurrences.
Keeps current with industry trends and technologies.
Takes all reasonable steps to maintain a safe work environment.
Non-Essential (Secondary)
Responds to computer/network emergencies on a 24-hour basis, traveling to City locations on an as-needed basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum knowledge equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field such as Computer Information Systems or Information Science.
Minimum experience equivalent to one year in information technology support.
Minimum experience equivalent to one year in help desk or customer service, preferred.
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle, preferred.

Difficulty of Work and Personal Work Relationship

DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
Incumbent performs a broad range of duties that require an understanding of a large number of different, interconnected systems. Incumbent will occasionally be required to work with users who are in some distress.
Incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 lbs. by themselves, anything above that is a two person task.
Work is performed in a modern office environment. Emergencies may require incumbent to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent is in constant contact with City employees in order to resolve their information technology issues.
Incumbent also maintains frequent contact with Department staff in order to resolve issues and accomplish installation, management, maintenance, and repair tasks as a team.
