CITY OF BEAVERTON is Hiring a Government Relations Manager Near Beaverton, OR


The City of Beaverton, Oregon is seeking an experienced government affairs professional to coordinate the city’s legislative and governmental affairs strategies.
 
The Government Affairs Manager will provide high-level direction to the city in government relations, legislative processes, and policy analysis. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can engage all city Departments to understand their needs, and coordinate and communicate with them on programs and strategies with long-term organization-wide and community-wide impact.
 
This is a full-time, exempt, Management 2 (M2) position. There is one vacancy.

  • Strategic leadership: Plan and manage how the city engages with state, local, and federal legislative activity. Keep city departments informed about upcoming laws and regulations and the impacts on city operations. 
  • Government affairs leadership: Build relationships with state and federal legislators, legislative committees, and other government agencies and their elected officials to make sure the city’s voice is heard. 
  • Contract management: Handle contracts for government relations services.
  • Communication and stakeholder engagement: Explain complex issues to diverse audiences, including city staff, boards, City Council, media, and the public. Represent the City in legislative hearings. 
  • Project management: Provide strategic direction and oversight of large-scale projects; administer and monitor budget; oversees contractual obligations and delivery schedules; coordinate and allocate resources.
  • Strategic planning and policy development: Develop and promote the mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the organization through key stakeholder partnerships. Provide visioning, strategic planning, and policy development.
  • Supervising staff: Prioritize and assign work; conduct performance evaluations; ensure staff is trained; ensure that employees follow policies and procedures; maintain a healthy and safe working environment; and, make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, political science, or a related field and
  • Seven years of directly-related experience, including
  • Three years of leadership experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position. 
Licensing and special requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the city’s driving standards.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check.

Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
