Full-time, starting September 2024 (with potential of part-time work in July 2024)

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 /year

Chickpeas Mixed Age Preschool is currently looking for a new, full-time preschool teacher for the 2023–2024 school year! The ideal candidate will work a Monday through Friday 10am - 6pm schedule.

Chickpeas is a mixed age preschool located in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Administrative tasks are performed by the Executive Director, while three paid, full-time teachers manage the classroom and curriculum. We enroll 20 children each year and operate between 8:00 AM–6:00 PM.

Chickpeas practices an emergent curriculum and creates units of study that stem from the children’s interests and teacher observations of their curiosities and play themes. We emphasize social and emotional development as we believe that children who display positive self-concepts, secure attachments to peers and staff, and a repertoire of empathetic skills are the children most ready to learn, remember, and use academic skills.

Chickpeas is also a school that educates for social justice and uses an anti-bias lens. We talk openly about difficult topics and help children develop the critical thinking skills that we hope will have a positive impact on the world. Interest and/or passion around these issues is preferred, but practice with this type of teaching IS NOT required.

The new teacher will work collaboratively with the Education Director/Lead Teacher and one teacher in the classroom to develop and implement curriculum, perform assessments, and communicate with parents. We are looking for someone creative and motivated to be part of a dynamic school community.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have one of the following:

1) A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field and two years of supervised and documented relevant experience in a preschool program OR

3) A study plan proposed for meeting requirements above which has been approved by an accredited college. A person who is eligible pursuant to a study plan shall submit documentation to the Executive Director indicating proof of enrollment in such college and specifying the time, not to exceed seven years, required for completion of the study plan.
