The Opportunity
Chelsea Piers is seeking to hire part-time Swim Instructors to instruct students on water safety and proper swim techniques base on thorough knowledge of the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum. At the Chelsea Piers Swim School, our mission is to provide any child the skills needed for a lifetime of confidence and enjoyment in the water. We strive to build a solid water safety and technical foundation from an early age. We work toward building up positive young minds and bodies throughout the stages of our effective swim program. We are looking for Swim Instructors who can instruct one or more 30-minute or 40-minute swim class per week for the entirety of our 18-week semester. Our classes mainly take place from 4pm-6pm on weekdays and throughout the morning on weekends.
Primary Responsibilities:
Be vocal and animated: Bring energy and enthusiasm to each class you teach.
Be punctual: Setting up your teaching area before the start of classes, cleaning up your area after class. Checking in with front desk for any new students or make-up lessons. Begin and end your lessons on time.
Skill Knowledge: A background in competitive swimming or teaching lessons is helpful but not required. Training in the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum is provided. Instructors must be willing and able to demonstrate and communicate the in water drills and four competitive strokes in the curriculum.
Classroom Management: Able to organize your classes based on your swimmers abilities. Convey key points about swimming in articulate/age appropriate manner to swimmers.
Teamwork: Be willing to help your teammates. Have the flexibility to teach in different classes to give the best possible instruction when asked.
Be prepared for each class: Know your students names and where they are in the program progression. Be able to keep tidy notes about their progress that are accessible onsite
Complete progress reports and report cards to give valuable feedback to our customers by the designated deadlines established by the program director
Ability to teach in various pools of varying degrees
Attendance and participation during trainings: Ability and willingness to complete our training program. Attended and participate in all staff meetings and in-service trainings held throughout each semester.

Excellent written and verbal skills
Superior customer service
Creative problem solving
Ability to multi-task and make critical decisions
Ability to work extended hours as needed
Must have a sense of urgency to ensure prompt responses to external and internal customers
Ability to work with children
Experience as a competitive swimmer or experience teaching swim lessons preferred
