Charlestowne Hotels is Hiring a Supervisor Near Hendersonville, NC

Waterfront Supervisor

This is a hybrid, full-time position that flexes between supervision of Kanuga Lake during its hours of operation and working events outside of those hours.

While the applicant is expected to hold in high regard the operation, equipment, and organization of the waterfront during the seasonal hours of operation, the applicant also holds a dual responsibility in the off season to the events team.

Lifeguard Responsibilities :

General Summary :

Under the direction and guidance of the Programs Manager and consistent with the policies of Kanuga, the Waterfront Supervisor oversees the waterfront to ensure the safety of all guests and program participants.

The Waterfront Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of all areas in and around the waterfront.

He / She is also accountable for knowing and properly executing all aquatic policies, procedures, and duties.

Qualifications :

Lifeguards must be able to :

  • Remain alert without lapses in consciousness for extended periods of time.
  • Physically perform all necessary rescue and survival skills.
  • Swim 500 yards, tread water for two minutes, and perform shallow front dives, head and feet-first surface dives.
  • Lift 50 lbs. from the floor and 200 lbs. in rescue situations.
  • Quickly and safely move to various locations in and around the waterfront.
  • Sit for extended periods of time, including in an elevated chair.
  • Ascend and descend ladders.
  • Communicate verbally with good voice projection and clarity.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment. (Significant background noise may exist in the aquatic environment.)
  • Observe all areas of the waterfront including deck, water surface and boats.

The Waterfront Supervisor must be 21 years of age or older with previous lifeguarding experience.

The Waterfront Supervisor must hold and maintain current certifications in the following :

  • Lifeguard
  • American Red Cross is accepted for hire.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Standard First Aid
  • Automated External Defibrillation AED
  • Emergency Oxygen Administration O2 is encouraged

Essential Functions :

Primary Duties (On the stand) :

  • Wear required uniform while on duty : lifeguard shirt, bathing suit and / or shorts, whistle, tube and have fanny pack containing pocket mask, gloves and other first aid items, other items as instructed by the Waterfront Director.
  • Actively scan and maintain constant vigilance over the waterfront.
  • Know and understand all aquatic policies and procedures, including the emergency action plan.
  • Ensure the safety and protect the lives of each patron in the waterfront area at all times by enforcing all rules, policies and procedures.
  • Be alert, diligent, and conscientious at all times.
  • Display a professional, courteous, and tactful demeanor at all times. Always strive to display a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Continuously exhibit honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and good decision-making skills.
  • Maintain harmonious rapport with staff and guests at all times.

Secondary Duties (Off the stand) :

These are duties that can be completed while working a shift with adequate waterfront coverage or while you are off the stand.

  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness and knowledge of all rescue and survival skills.
  • Always report to duty on time and work all scheduled shifts. Find a qualified substitute and obtain approval from the immediate supervisor in the event that missing a scheduled shift is unavoidable.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required aquatic staff training and meetings.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the waterfront and surrounding areas by completing required waterfront maintenance duties.
  • Assist swimmers with swim tests.
  • Accurately complete and submit all safety and maintenance records concerning the waterfront area and usage of the waterfront as outlined in the Waterfront Manual.
  • Inspect and maintain all emergency equipment (Shepherd's Crooks, ring buoys, rescue tubes, etc.) and other waterfront equipment and inform the Programs Manager and / or General Manager immediately of any necessary equipment repairs.
  • Continually provide outstanding customer service and strive to develop committed relationships with guests and program participants.
  • Initiate communications with the Programs Manager as necessary concerning program problems, personnel conflicts, and guest concerns.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Programs Manager.

Effect on End Results :

Proper performance of the essential functions of the Lifeguard will result in :

  • A Safety First , productive and effective atmosphere in the waterfront.
  • Positive and constructive evaluations and feedback (written and oral) from supervisors, guests, and program participants.
  • Annual evaluations that reflect understanding of the waterfront policies and procedures.

Events Staff Responsibilites :

General Summary :

Properly set, clean and maintain all function rooms, service corridors, storerooms and public function areas in a safe, accident-free manner.

Provide excellent customer service and work closely with guests, Sales, and the Food and Beverage departments.

Essential Functions :

  • Check the server's and house person’s BEOs to ensure that all information is accurate.
  • Set rooms, buffets, and tables according to BEO specifications and Supervisor instructions. Check electrical hook-ups for proper working order and tape down all exposed cords for equipment in use.
  • Perform all guest contact activities or guest requests with a cordial, efficient and professional manner while maintaining a commitment to excellence.
  • Ensure that all store rooms are clean, organized and secured. Assist in equipment inventory as scheduled. Attend staff set- up and technical training on a regular basis.
  • Organize Banquet rooms to ensure a productive, safe and energy conserving work environment.
  • Ensure proper maintenance (cleaning and repair) of all equipment.
  • Ensure that all unused rooms are set to department’s standards.
  • Constantly communicate all concerns to the department Manager.
  • Assist the servers during service by responding to their requests; notify the supervisor immediately of any difficulties.
  • Maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude in working with supervisors and fellow associates in all departments.
  • Enforce all safety and sanitation procedures including safety guidelines and OSHA requirements.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties, including sweeping, mopping, pressure washing common areas.
  • Bar-backing or running food as needed to help service all F&B departments.
  • Must be able to work independently once given direction.
  • Must be available mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays based on business demands.

Desired Skills and Qualifications :

Education : High school education or equivalent experience.

Experience :

  • Six months hotel or convention center -banquet food / beverage services environment.
  • Experience and knowledge in all facets of banquet operations, convention services setup and a good understanding of AV equipment operations preferred.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Able to read, speak and understand English.
  • Able to lift, push, carry 20 - 50 lbs.
  • Stand continuously for long periods of time.
  • Communicate information and hotel services to management, staff and guests.
