Position Overview:

 The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) must be responsible in becoming knowledgeable and skilled in the principles and procedures of hemodialysis. This position organizes and administers quality patient care. This position assists with the education of staff, patients and their families. This position will remain in compliance with CDC personnel policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

 Responsibilities:

· Initiates, monitors, and discontinues patient hemodialysis treatments as assigned

·Implements patient medical care plan

·Legible, accurate and complete medical documentation

·Utilizes appropriate assessment skills regarding individual patient therapy

·Performs patient rounds as assigned and assures treatment compliance with physician prescription

·Clinical safety of patients; ability to recognize, assess and respond to audible and visual alarms and equipment malfunction

·Participates and follows protocols for the evaluation of supplies and equipment

·Performs daily equipment operational checks and complies with equipment procedures

·Compliance with bio-hazardous waste and infection control policies and procedures

·Compliance with lab drawing policies and procedures

·Performs and participates in quality assurance tasks and audits as assigned

·Performs water or dialysate cultures, and LAL's as assigned

·Participates and supports CDC Continuous Quality Improvement efforts, team functions, and projects

Qualifications:

 · Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the State of Ohio Board of Nursing

·NAPNES certification

·Current CPR certification

·Must have excellent observation skills with the ability to make sound judgments regarding treatment
