The Center for Women and Families - Lead Kitchen Assistant

The Lead Kitchen Assistant helps to move toward our vision of thriving survivors in safe communities! 

The Center for Women and Families provides free services to people of all identities who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of their trauma by reducing their risk factors and building their resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana. 

The Lead Kitchen Assistantis responsible for assisting in the activities of the kitchen and dining facilities of The Center to maintain high standards of food and beverage quality, nutrition, safety, and sanitation standards. The Center serves approximately 33,000 hot meals per year.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Exhibits welcoming, customer focused manner when serving clients. 
• Follows posted procedures and protocols for daily operation of kitchen and dining facilities. 
• Follows menu by preparing, cooking, and serving meals. Will need to occasionally improvise utilizing food sources on hand. 
• Completes required daily prepping for upcoming meals and food production process. 
• Assists the Supervisor of Food Services with inventory needs due to high percentage of donated/acquired foods. 
• Stocks shelves and assists with organization and inventory of food items. 
• Maintains sanitation in kitchen and dining facilities to maintain compliance with health and safety codes. 
• Maintains an orderly and clean kitchen and dining room. The includes scraping plates and loading the dishwasher. Unloading the dishwasher and returning dishes to be ready for the next meal. Washing some dishes by hand my be required. 
• Cleans up the kitchen and dining area after each meal. This includes cleaning and sanitizing, wiping down the counters, workspace, tables, appliances, mopping the floor and returning items to their proper storage space. 
• Dresses appropriately for safety and cleanliness in the kitchen area. 
• Assists with donation pick-ups. 

Qualifications

• Within 60 days of hire, you must become certified in food service through Serv Safe training with Jefferson County Health Department. 
• Fluency in languages other than English are a plus. 
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment. 
• Developed sense of empathy. 
• Ability to set and maintain boundaries. 
• Ability to identify problems and offer creative solutions. 
• Basic knowledge of food safety. 
• Basic knowledge of food production techniques. 
• Willingness to get certified by the health department. 

The Center requires the basic round of COVID vaccinations and highly recommends boosters.
