Purpose

In collaboration with the Diocesan Maintenance Team, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing facility management and upkeep of buildings located on the Peger Road campus and other buildings managed by the Chancery, including parishes with a signed maintenance agreement. Duties also include grounds maintenance and assisting parishes with maintenance questions and concerns. The Maintenance Technician performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Diocese of Fairbanks.

This is a full-time non-exempt position with excellent benefits including: health, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) retirement plan with company match; three weeks starting PTO; and eleven paid holidays. Salary DOE.

Essential Functions

• 70-85% - Performs general building maintenance at the Peger Road campus which currently includes the Chancery, Frassati House, St. Ignatius Residence, Sacred Heart Cathedral, warehouse, as well as the Madison Drive Convent, and aircraft hangar. Work may include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and minor remodel work in compliance with building codes.
• 10-25% - Grounds maintenance to include snow removal, brush cutting, and mowing. Performs vehicle & equipment maintenance. Monitors grounds for unauthorized residents.
• 5% - Assists parishes with maintenance questions and concerns and supports other diocesan staff. Assists with purchasing and/or shipping of materials, as needed.
• Documents all maintenance tasks utilizing an online system for tracking work orders, expenses, labor, and status.
• Follows maintenance schedules for facility, vehicle, and heavy equipment maintenance.
• Monitors building systems, facilities, and equipment to advise Maintenance Lead on what maintenance, repair, or replacement needs to be performed.
• Completes work safely, effectively, and in a timely manner.

Education and Experience

• Experience in general building maintenance and/or construction projects, minimum of 5 years of commercial building maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience should include the operation and maintenance of boilers, heating controls, air handler equipment and other parts of a mechanical system including fuel piping.
• Experience with the operation and maintenance of electrical systems, including lighting and lighting upgrades.
• Knowledgeable and able to operate and maintain equipment for use in maintaining grounds and buildings.
• Familiarity with hazardous material handling procedures and OSHA guidelines a plus.

Language Skills

• Excellent oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
• Must be able to work with, speak and listen to individuals from different cultures within Alaska. Ability to patiently work with individuals with English as a second language.

Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes

• Knowledge of Catholic Church facilities and parish structures preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and online maintenance tracking system.
• Good time management, including ability to manage several projects at the same time.
• Ability to have and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Must be supportive of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
• Must have a professional demeanor and take initiative.
