Career Opportunities at Linwood Center is Hiring an IT Specialist Near Ellicott, MD

Position Summary

The IT Specialist is responsible for ensuring continuity of computer system services for Linwood’s computer users. This position requires the ability to work in all aspects of the IT department by providing the technical expertise, assistance and project coordination necessary to install computer software products, modify/repair hardware and resolve technical problems. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages, maintains and upgrades LAN/WAN infrastructure including all network equipment, wireless network equipment, SAN networking and telephony networking including hardware, firmware and software updates.
  • Manages and maintains TCP/IP networks.
  • Creates and maintains all network diagrams, rack diagrams inventory information and network equipment configuration management.
  • Designs/plans a disaster recovery scenario, test, and execute regarding networking and recovery scenarios.
  • Recommends and plans information technology to support and meet company objectives based on research and evaluation.
  • Directs implementation and execution of new/upgraded information systems via well-defined plans including procedures, deadlines, and accountability.
  • Evaluates and implements IT procedures and equipment for maximum efficiency and cost containment.
  • Research software products and applicability to organizational environment. Recommend changes in software and hardware to improve computer capabilities.
  • Install new or upgraded software and conduct testing on new or current software.
  • Diagnose problems in computer hardware and may be called upon to troubleshoot problems for users.
  • Work daily with hardware, repairing or replacing defective equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows/Windows Server a plus.
  • Participates on-call duties as well as occasional after hours work to implement changes and improvements without impacting business hours.
  • Work closely with service vendors to ensure continuity of service.
  • Verify that needed upgrades are installed on systems and may need to conduct periodic inventory of the computers used.
  • Collect outdated equipment for recycling or disposal. Installs new computers and attaching peripheral equipment such as printers.
  • Respond to requests for new or configured hardware or software, and keep inventory up to date.
  • Occasionally, may be required to instruct new users on software or hardware, especially when major upgrades are made.
  • Deploy, support and maintain a fleet of laptops, workstations, and hand held devices and peripherals.
  • May set up and support of conference/training room audio visual equipment.
  • Customer service oriented and the ability to proactively and effectively communicate, work and contribute to a small team environment and all levels of personnel in the organization.
  • Monitor and resolve issues with backup/recovery operations. Effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Responsible for researching new products, emerging technologies and other troubleshooting discipline as required.
  • Stays abreast of trends and regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Develops and maintain company Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Develops/selects and conducts user training on an as-needed basis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows/Windows Server a plus.
  • Advanced experience in desktop user support for MAC’s and PC’s.
  • Self-motivated and directed with very strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Very strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
  • Operates small power tools and all computer and office equipment as well as occasional lifting of computer and/or networking equipment up to 60 pounds.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • Associates degree in a computer-related field or at least 5 years of industry experience.
  • Experience in advanced troubleshooting and monitoring. Specific experience with consolidating network equipment logging and troubleshooting using logging 
  • Must have experienced in iOS environment and Google Workspace
  • Advanced Ethernet/IP networking knowledge and extensive experience with various IP protocols with 5 years of experience.
  • Advanced firewall and security knowledge with 5 years of experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational, time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ensures users/customers are provided professional, courteous, and timely support and service.
  • Experience with various handheld devices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft server family of products.
  • Must possess current driver’s license and have clean driving record in order to service off-site program locations and residences.

Shift: Monday - Friday (Flexible hours)

Pay: $32/hr ($66k annual)
