The Opportunity:

The Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment Specialist (CIA) will be responsible for coordinating the school curriculum in adherence to the Maryland State Department of Education requirements. The CIA will be responsible for assisting teachers in conducting assessments, case management for IEPs, and state assessment management. The CIA will ensure that research-based, best practices for students with autism and related disabilities will form the core of instruction in an individually designed, differentiated program that meets the needs of the students. In conjunction with the Administrative Head and Education Director the CIA may provide oversight to the school program’s Communities by monitoring curriculum, instruction, and assessments, to ensure compliance with MSDE learning goals, COMAR regulations, and Local School Systems.

Job Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the Administrative Head and the Education Director, the CIA will carry out the following duties and responsibilities outlined below:

  • Conduct a variety of formal and informal assessments on student skill levels and produce the corresponding reports and documents as needed and reporting results to the Education Director.
  • Utilize the information gathered through assessments to assist teachers in developing appropriate IEP goals and objectives
  • Edit and provide feedback to teachers on writing progress reports
  • Instruct and train teachers on instruction implementation and data collection procedures related to IEP goals and objectives
  • Graph and analyze data collected based on academic goals and objectives
  • Facilitate state assessment administration for students on diploma and certificate tracks
  • Work collaboratively with behavior staff, related service providers, and Local School System representatives
  • Provide support and consultation to teachers concerning curriculum development and implementation
  • Provide teachers with ongoing robust constructive feedback related to lesson plans, instructional techniques and classroom management.
  • Assist teachers in creating a robust classroom schedule that meets the needs of their students and adheres to expectations from the MSDE and LSSs
  • Provide individual, classroom, and community-wide trainings regarding learning strategies effective for students with autism and related disabilities (e.g., reinforcement schedules, prompt hierarchies, and general classroom management techniques)
  • Assist teachers in providing ongoing observations and feedback to staff individually and in a group setting
  • Consult with teachers on lesson planning based on students’ IEP objectives, as well as the maintenance of data collection
  • Coordinate individual, classroom, team, and community-wide meetings as needed to discuss programming, student needs, and other important information
  • Provide educational support to classroom staff in the absence of a classroom teacher
  • Set up regular workshops for teachers, staff and parents on instructional methodologies and curriculum as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • A valid Maryland professional teaching certificate in special education.
  • Must have at least three (3) years’ experience as a classroom teacher for students with autism
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the IEP process and possess the skillset to support the development and implementation of students’ IEPs
  • Requires a high level of interpersonal and professional skills to interact effectively with Linwood staff, parents, school system personnel and other professionals
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge base in curriculum and educational techniques
  • Must possess the ability to train others
