A private, prestigious, and sophisticated single-family office is looking for an Operations Analyst to help the existing investment team manage an institutional-sized investment portfolio. The overall investment mandate is to preserve the long-term purchasing power of multi-generational assets.
The position is operations-focused on performance reporting, middle-office, and administrative responsibilities.
Responsibilities
• Assume ownership for detailed performance reports on the aggregate portfolio and specific line-items across all
asset classes. The reporting process utilizes a leading third-party external software system and requires
attention to detail to ensure quality over all reporting components such as trade reconciliation, historical and
current market values, and ongoing benchmark tracking
• Regularly interact and be the primary point person to lead our relationship with the external third-party
software provider and account custodians
• Fulfill time-sensitive data requests and generate financial exhibits to complement data output
• Help track, review and file important documents such as manager letters; monthly, quarterly, and annual
investment reports; tax statements; and legal documents
• Use the third-party reporting software to develop capital call schedules that model exposure and cash flows for
the overall portfolio and for individual funds, i.e., how much capital is expected to be called net out of pocket;
how/when distributions will be used to net capital calls; average hold period for underlying companies; what %
of a commitment the manager expects to keep in reserves after the end of an investment period etc.
• Evaluate how managers value private investments, i.e., public market or private comparables, operating
performance metrics, etc.; and review historical statements to understand if positions are held conservatively,
close to cost, or potentially above their true value given where investments are ultimately exited
• Help conduct detailed quantitative analysis of existing investments. Examples include: attribution of p&l by deal
and fund; correlation to other investments; exposure/leverage metrics, position count, $ and name turnover in
funds; AUM; new product launches; insider investments; 13F changes and overlap with other investments
Qualifications
• Demonstrates unquestioned ethics and credibility
• Undergraduate degree with strong academic track record in quantitative, qualitative, and analytical skills
• Shows attention to detail with personal accountability, and is willing to put in the effort necessary to get the job
done with a proactive “no-job-is-too-small” attitude
• High degree of intellectual curiosity, i.e., not afraid to ask questions and show initiative to challenge the status
quo to improve any aspects of the business
• Seeks to learn from mistakes and accepts constructive feedback in a positive manner
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restriction
