POSITION SUMMARY:
- Conducts classifications on all commitments to identify offender needs and housing concerns.
- Orients and educates new/recent admissions to each facility.
- Maintains caseload which includes, but is not limited to, creating/updating case plans, ensuring court requirements are satisfied, handling offender issues, and facilitates work release and reentry planning.
- Sends internal and external referrals as required.
- Corresponds with courts, probation and parole, social services and other outside agencies as required. Assists with criminal and civil virtual hearings, as necessary.
- Presents custody level reviews to supervisors.
- Assists in general supervision of personnel who may be performing occasional case management duties, i.e., practicum students, etc.
- Conducts program facilitation and assists with virtual programs as needed.
- Submit reports as required.
- May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job. More detailed instructions as to the nature of their duties will be given to employees at the beginning of work.
- Provides crisis intervention, as necessary.
- Functions as part of the Unit Management Team.
- In an emergency situation, assume the duties of Corrections Officer.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred with one-year correctional experience, or a combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Thorough knowledge of the Criminal Justice system with a clear understanding of Corrections.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of OMSe, JNET, CorreTrak, and Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to type 35 WPM.
- Possess a high stress tolerance capacity; be very adaptable to changing circumstances.
- Requires a valid vehicle operator’s license prior to appointment and during tenure as a Case Manager.
- Ability to perform duties while “locked” inside a correctional facility in direct contact with incarcerated offenders.
- Must successfully complete the Department of Corrections’ Basic Training class.
