Brentwood Bank is Hiring a Remote CPA, Controller

Summary of Basic Function:
Finance executive responsible for establishing, implementing, and coordinating accounting systems; assuring the existence of and adherence to operating procedures for accounting and related activities; coordinating the compliance with regulatory policy relating to accounting systems and practices; preparing budgets and related financial reports; supervising assigned accounting personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the accounting department to serve internal customers with consistent and superior customer service.
  • Provide leadership by example and ensure that all accounting personnel are trained and coached to exceed performance goals.
  • Ensure adherence with compliance and risk management standards.
  • Supervises all accounting functions of the Bank. Monitors cost-control activities. Approves and implements cost-control strategies as needed.
  • Prepares periodic audit schedules and manages the implementation of audit activities.
  • Responsible for financial reporting, financial analysis, cash management and forecasting reports.
  • Documents the Bank’s investment accounting activities. Analyzes changes to the portfolio. Responsible for board reporting and documentation.
  • Supervises the preparation of, and reviews the call report, and any other regulatory reporting.
  • Assures that accounting procedures are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Coordinates the daily balancing and reconciliation of the general ledger, preparation of payroll, and accounts payable functions.
  • Promote internal communications with all Bank departments to ensure quality and consistency in the accounting service offering.
  • Assists in establishing and monitoring internal controls throughout various departments.Establishes and implements cost monitoring and control activities.
  • Represent and promote favorable image and uphold the Bank reputation through involvement in community activities.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on business need.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manage, direct, and coordinate all accounting activities and personnel. Set performance expectations.
  • Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with Bank policies and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Responsible for training employees, appraising performance; coaching employees to exceed performance expectations; problem resolution.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
  • Must be Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Five years of experience in a financial institution or related environment as a staff accountant
  • Excellent knowledge of financial institution accounting, tax, auditing, operations, and standards of policy
  • Demonstrated superior customer service, high-level analytical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial success in coaching, motivating, and developing employees.
  • Excellent organizational and time management/prioritization skills.
  • Physical Requirements: prolonged standing (5-8 hours per day), frequent use of hands to manipulate/grasp objects, ability to communicate face to face and on the phone with clients, occasional bending and lifting from floor height, frequent forward reach, frequent lifting of 1-10lbs, occasional lifting of up to 50lbs, ability to see and read fine print, must be able to distinguish and count currency.
  • Job may require local travel between branches or offsite travel for training.

  • This is a remote flexible (hybrid) role, and it is expected there will be both remote and office work.   • Work may be performed in an office environment with normal noise levels.
  • Involves prolonged sitting and computer usage.
  • The position is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and incumbent will need to live within a commutable distance.
