First and Second Grade Classroom Assistant and Aftercare Teacher - Breakwater School - Portland, Maine

Breakwater School seeks an experienced, creative and collaborative assistant teacher/ after-care teacher to
join our dedicated teaching faculty. This is a full time, hybrid role with the day school and our dynamic
after school program. This position is part time (.5) in the day school and part time (.5) in our after care
and enrichment program. Start date is as soon as the position is filled.

Position Overview:
Day school:
The qualified educator must be passionate about supporting children and have a willingness to learn and
grow. This position supports the first and second grade students with many opportunities to work one on
one and in groups with students. The 1st/ 2nd grade is a multi-age program that is part of an elementary
school covering all subjects (math, language arts, science, outdoor adventure, and PE). A successful
candidate will be able to support the students one on one and in small groups.
Aftercare:
The qualified educator is creative, compassionate, and energetic with a strong interest in child-centered
learning and community building. AfterCare Teachers create and lead a variety
of art, science, building and/or active play activities based on the teacher’s background and student
interests. Teachers will also teach 1-2 specialty enrichment classes during each 6-8 week session focused
on a topic of their choosing (will receive additional compensation for these classes at a higher pay rate).
Our AfterCare and Enrichment programs serve children from Breakwater School as well as students from
surrounding public schools.
