BLUESTEM COMMUNITIES MANAGEMENT INC is Hiring a Director of Nursing - Schowalter Villa - FT Near Hesston, KS

Our company is seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Nursing to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the Nursing Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and local regulations and standards. You will work closely with the Health Care Administrator and the Medical Director to ensure the highest quality of care is maintained in a person-centered setting. Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility
  • Delegate supervisory responsibilities and accountability to various disciplines and managers within department.
  • Assure organized work order systems assigning responsibility/accountability to each job classification
  • Maintain current policy and procedure for department
  • Involve Human Resources when interviewing and making any employment decisions including discharges for the Nursing Department.
  • Plan for proper orientation and training of new nursing personnel and oversees nursing education
  • Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours, and/or assist nursing supervisory staff in completing and performing such tasks
  • Chair professional staff meetings
  • Assess nursing care needs of potential residents prior to residency, when possible
  • Assist residents to adjust positively to new situations and in accepting their limitations
  • Counsel with the residents/DPOAs about physical, mental, spiritual, and psychosocial needs and consults with health care professionals to maintain highest level of functioning
  • Ensure that proper clinical records are maintained on all residents
  • Supervise personnel in administering/preparing all medications and treatments and assures that appropriate procedures are initiated and accurately implemented. Ensures investigation of abnormal events
  • Confer with families of residents to help maintain good rapport and public relations
  • Insure that quality care is maintained through a QA facility-wide program
  • Maintain adequate stock of supplies for resident care
  • Approve time sheets for department and incoming invoices pertaining to the Nursing Department. Evaluates new products
  • Assure accuracy in resident care and ancillary supplies of resident
  • Serve on the following committees: Bluestem Senior Leadership, Risk Management, CQI, Safety, Medicare, and others as appointed
  • Interact with other departments so that cooperative goals can be met efficiently and effectively
  • Oversee employee health/treatment, Nursing Employee Exposure Plan, and immunization programs
  • Oversee the coordination of in-facility student clinical experiences of health-related classes
  • Perform administrative duties such as competing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary
  • Provide direct care as necessary
  • Ensure that all personnel involved in providing care to the resident are aware of the resident’s care plan
  • Maintain the nursing service department’s budget
  • Monitor nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be eighteen 18-years of age
  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Kansas
  • Must have prior experience in Long Term Care as DON or supervisor in healthcare
  • Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal regulations for nursing homes
  • Must have strong management and leadership skills
  • Must have the ability to relate with different workplace populations
  • Must be responsible, accountable and able to cope with diversity
  • Must function independently and be flexible with working hours

Physical Requirements:

Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
