- Assist the principal in the overall operation of the school and serve as a building instructional leader.
- Support a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
- Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
- Continually monitor student progress and outcomes. Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents, and community members through all programs and activities.
- Support the development of a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems. Develop, coach, train, and mentor staff as directed.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies, and school district procedures.
- Assist with supervising the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning, student growth and development.
- Ensure a safe learning environment that encourages staff and students to take ownership for behavior and creates a positive school climate.
- Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
- Assists with scheduling; implementation of goals and selection of instructional materials; analyzes test data; determines ways to improve instruction and student goals. Designs and implements special program designs.
- Participate in professional development workshops, activities, and seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current K-12 /Secondary Principal License (Minnesota)
- A minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching or other related school experience
- Demonstrated success as a culturally responsive instructional leader with a strong vision for the future
- Commitment to valuing diversity, adapting to diversity, and managing the dynamics of difference
- Proven expertise and commitment to best practices and continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to hold self and others accountable to high professional standards

The Middle School Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, coaching, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective family, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers, students and families.
