    SUMMARY:
    The Middle School Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, coaching, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective family, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers, students and families.

As an assistant principal in Bloomington Public Schools, you will serve this mission by creating equitable systems and ensuring learning for each student. You will engage with and support the school community and build relationships in culturally responsive ways, maintaining existing partnerships and establishing new ones to best serve students and families.
    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assist the principal in the overall operation of the school and serve as a building instructional leader.
    • Support a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
    • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
    • Continually monitor student progress and outcomes. Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
    • Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents, and community members through all programs and activities.
    • Support the development of a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems. Develop, coach, train, and mentor staff as directed.
    • Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies, and school district procedures.
    • Assist with supervising the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning, student growth and development.
    • Ensure a safe learning environment that encourages staff and students to take ownership for behavior and creates a positive school climate.
    • Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
    • Assists with scheduling; implementation of goals and selection of instructional materials; analyzes test data; determines ways to improve instruction and student goals. Designs and implements special program designs.
    • Participate in professional development workshops, activities, and seminars.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
    • Current K-12 /Secondary Principal License (Minnesota)
    • A minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching or other related school experience
    • Demonstrated success as a culturally responsive instructional leader with a strong vision for the future
    • Commitment to valuing diversity, adapting to diversity, and managing the dynamics of difference
    • Proven expertise and commitment to best practices and continuous improvement
    • Demonstrated ability to hold self and others accountable to high professional standards
    • Exemplary professional ethics and personal integrity
    • Positive, responsive communication with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community that consistently welcomes and enhances effective work relationships.
    COMPENSATION:
    Salary schedule based on the BPS Principal Contract, previous experience and education.
