Job purpose

The General Manager is the key servant leader of the distribution center team, that creates a culture of performance that drives the facility to obtain maximum levels of operational efficiency. To be an effective leader, the General Manager must empower, entrust, and enable their team to achieve the highest levels of safety, quality, and process adherence to create maximum outputs of performance, utilization, and efficiency while exhibiting Big Rock Sports’ Core Values. This role requires proven leadership skills, experience in developing and motivating teams and individuals, and a leader that is a demonstrates the ability to consistently deliver results through clearly communicated goals and objectives to their team. The General Manager must have demonstrated experience with logistics, customer service, employee relations, cost/budget management, change management, engineered labor standards and OSHA standards and regulations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Embodies “The Big Rock Way” and acts as a champion of the five core values: Character, Commitment, Conservation, Creativity, and Collaboration.
  • Sets each member of the team up for success each day, by acting as a force multiplier of positive encouragement while also demanding accountability to process adherence, safety, quality and respect for others.
  • Creates a Performance Culture within the distribution center operations, and drives value through enabling each member of the operational team to be able to achieve individual and team goals through a true servant leadership model.
  • Team Leadership: Provides TLC (Teaching, Leadership, and Coaching) and drives accountability for managers, supervisors, team leaders and all warehouse associates. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement. Mentor and develop staff to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Performance Management: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure performance and track progress against targets. Analyze employee labor management data daily, collaborate with facility leadership to post and communicate results and operational metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans and objectives aligned with organizational goals. Identify opportunities for growth, efficiency improvements, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the distribution center, including receiving, inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping, and logistics. Ensure operational excellence through adherence to best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage resources effectively, including personnel, equipment, and facilities. Optimize resource utilization to maximize labor efficiency and minimize costs. 
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in all distribution center activities. Implement quality control measures to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in order processing and fulfillment.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with Big Rock Sports health and safety regulations and standards. Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Customer Service: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to meet customer expectations and service level agreements. Address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the distribution center. Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and technology integration to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities within the distribution center operations. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize disruptions and ensure business continuity.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred. 
  • Lean Six Sigma, APICS, or other certifications recommended.
  • Proven experience in distribution center management, with a track record of success in leading large-scale operations.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • In-depth knowledge of distribution center operations, logistics, inventory management, and supply chain principles.
  • Familiarity with modern warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control software, and other relevant technologies. Conveyance, automation, and WCS a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders, including the practical use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams is required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Supervisory Requirements

Minimal seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in a Distribution/Warehouse Environment
