Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy, and communication skills, and feel valued by society. Job Title: Senior Director, Development Operations (BBC) Department: Development, Marketing & Technology Reports to: Vice President, Best Buddies Challenges Location: Work from Home (Ideally residing in CA, MA or FL) # of direct reports: Up to 4 Salary Range: Commensurate with experience Revised date: 1/1/2024 Position Overview: The Senior Director, of Development Operations (SD, DO) for the Best Buddies Challenges and Breakaway Camps will oversee the execution of a sales and marketing plan focused on peer-to-peer fundraising and play a major role in leading the team and achieving revenue goals. The SD, DO will be responsible for attaining and exceeding budgeted participant revenue through an expertise in peer-to-peer fundraising. They will supervise development grid accuracy for each property, corporate team recruitment, and manage accountability of lead generation for the regional development sales teams in Boston, California, Miami, and the Breakaway Camps. Working in conjunction with the regional teams, the SD, DO will ensure that specific recruitment, fundraising, major gifts, and auction goals are met through detailed stewardship and tracking. This role will work across the organization, including interacting with the CEO/Founder and SVP on stewardship and sales pitches. Job success will be measured by annual budgeted revenue goal achievement for the Best Buddies Challenges.This position will support the overall effort of building a community of individuals, program participants, community leaders, government officials, celebrities, and executives to engage them to participate in, fundraise and sponsor the Best Buddies Challenges. The Best Buddies Challenges will be supported by an annual sales, communication, marketing, and PR campaign with dedicated operations, website, accounting, coaching, and customer service teams in support. This position will be directly responsible for all revenue streams within the Best Buddies Challenge events. Job Requirements - Qualified applicants must have:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience in development, sales, and/or non-profit management
  • Demonstrated success in motivating groups such as team captains, company leaders, and fundraisers to raise money. Must be exciting, motivating, and able to persuade people to commit to participate at multiple levels in the Best Buddies Challenges
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing and prioritizing projects with multiple and often competing deadlines, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-touch customer service and work with customer relations management (CRM) database systems (e.g., keep contact logs, conversation notes, development grid, etc.)
  • Self-starter who excels in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing and implementing high-touch stewardship practices.
  • Able to work non-traditional hours, such as nights and weekends, and attend social events aimed at engagement, lead development, and sponsorship sales.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackbaud, Google Drive, Salesforce and Summa
  • Organized and detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially superb public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work the Best Buddies Challenge event, with a week-long preparation period entailing strenuous physical activity with possible continuous lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for 16 hours daily over the course of the event. Ability to work at varied hours. Event preparation can entail early morning and late-night activities.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Development
  • Responsible for attaining annual peer-to-peer revenue goals across all Best Buddies Challenges revenue streams of more than 4 million dollars.
  • Manage, track, set, and monitor deadlines for major gifts and donors on an annual and event basis.
  • Work closely with regional staff in developing an annual plan and monitor development grids, timelines, and goals for fundraising, sponsorships, and major gifts.
  • Work closely with BBC Leadership in creating a sales culture within the team.
  • Cultivate team captains and company leaders to directly support revenue growth for fundraising through the growth of teams, individual participants, and fundraising programs.
  • Work with Best Buddies Leadership team to identify, steward and track all major gifts and corporate partnerships.
  • Play a leadership role in assisting each market (Boston, California, Miami) with Executive Committee meetings.
  • Cultivate new development relationships in the Best Buddies Challenge markets.
  • Attend major networking events or deploy regional teams to attend as needed in each market.
  • Handle stewardship and relationship management for select teams, sponsors, and donors.
Marketing
  • Assist and support in-market activations for rider lead generation, recruitment and engagement.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of all stewardship efforts and provide regular reports on increased gift volume and amount.
  • Speak publicly (and train direct reports to speak) and present to various groups, including corporate employee groups, cycling teams, civic groups, etc., for the purpose of representing Best Buddies developing relationships.
Human Resources
  • Directly supervises staff- responsible for staff development, oversight, and providing meaningful performance feedback, as well as holding them accountable for meeting all development and operational goals, hitting benchmarks, and following best practices and guidelines.
  • Responsible for all human resources related activities within the team. Understands, follows and reinforces human resources policies and procedures in a consistent manner.
  • Work with VP on tracking and accountability of lead and recruitment benchmarks
  • Create and train BBC staff on stewardship best practices.
  • Inspires and motivates staff by demonstrating personal commitment and integrity and providing proactive training, support and recognition.
Operations
  • Work in conjunction with the strategic communications team to advise on rider recruitment, retention, and fundraising strategies designed in concert with each regional development team
  • Assist in planning and guide execution of alumni, onboarding and stratification plans for fundraising participants for each Best Buddies Challenge market to ensure growth year-over-year
  • Create and implement a robust stewardship plan by identifying top fundraisers, donors, and team recruiters.
  • Implement all rider recruitment efforts for HP/CA/Miami, such as Lunch & Learns, Kickoffs and, Team Rides
  • Collaborate with Special Events, Stewardship, Finance, and Programs teams, as well as State staff on marketing and revenue projects.
Finance
  • Track, monitor and report revenue progress towards budgeted revenue
