Category: Elementary School Teaching Job Title: Art Teacher/Educator Classification: Certified Primary Function: Responsible for developing in each student an interest in and an ability to express themselves creatively in visual terms, using skills and techniques appropriate to their interests and abilities. Also responsible for:
Collaborating and integrating with faculty across disciplines to build meaningful curricular connections.
Teaching knowledge and skills in drawing, painting, ceramics, and art history.
Understanding the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, mono-printing.
Knowing the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media techniques.
Understanding how to apply elements of design and modern principles of art.
Planning and presenting art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and community.
Developing instructional plans and organizing class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
Providing individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
Establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
Instructing students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment. Providing appropriate safety instructions and making safety checks on equipment to help ensure the overall safety of students.
Organizing storage areas and controlling the use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize the time required for distribution and collection.
Evaluating each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings and preparing progress reports.
Complying with Berwyn North School District #98 Parent-Teacher Conference policies in order to better communicate student progress.
Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
Accountability: Reports to Building Level Administrators & District Level Administrators Education/Certification:
Professional Educator’s Licence (PEL) with degree/endorsement in Special Education
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Art, Fine Arts, or Art Education
Master’s Degree preferred
