Job Title: Middle School Math Teacher SEEKING SHORT-TERM APPROVAL AND CONTENT KNOWLEDGE PATHWAY APPLICANTS - https://www.isbe.net/Pages/educator-licensure-approvals.aspx Classification: Classified Accountability: Reports to building level administrators Job Profile: The Middle School Math Teacher instructs students, facilitates student learning, monitors progress, disciplines as necessary, and performs other duties as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructs students as outlined in existing lesson plans
Establishes positive, standards-based learning expectations for students
Maintains established routine of school and classroom procedures
Creates a flexible class environment conducive to student learning and personal growth
Fosters effective rapport with students; encourages self-discipline and responsibility; ensures fairness and exhibits an understanding and respect for students
Establishes a safe, orderly environment and maintains reasonable rules of conduct in accordance with the District’s student discipline code in the classroom and on school grounds (including playgrounds, lunchrooms, hallways, etc.)
Tracks attendance per school protocol
May coordinate and attend class field trips; may work in extracurricular and after-school activities
Communicates effectively with parents when needed
Completes other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Professional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
Appropriate subject area content endorsement, if applicable
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university

Bachelor's Degree in teaching content area or a Bachelor's Degree in any area plus 32 semester hours of content area coursework
Pass the applicable licensure content test
Submit ISBE Form 83-88
Must be willing to complete an approved educator preparation program
1 year of experience on the STA plus a proficient or higher evaluation rating will waive student teaching

Hold a valid PEL endorsed in a teaching field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Prior experience working with children/adolescents
Passion for working with children/adolescents
Strong desire and commitment to educating Berwyn’s youth
Subject matter knowledge consistent with state certification requirements
Understanding of effective teaching principles and familiarity with contemporary best practices and strategies with regard to classroom management and behavior management
Ability to modify instruction based on student needs
Ability and willingness to cooperate with faculty and administrators to meet identified short- and long-term targets and execute an overall education program
Understanding of the complex physical, intellectual, and social-emotional needs of students
Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in English; ability to interpret lesson plans, procedures and textbooks; ability to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from students, administrators and parents
Willingness/Ability to assist with the management of student misbehavior
Ability to lift 10-20 lbs
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in Spanish
Knowledge of peer mediation and conflict resolution techniques and the ability to apply these strategies in the classroom, lunchroom, or the playground
Ability to help increase student achievement as defined by the IEP. Functions to include but not be limited to:
Assisting students with developing thinking skills and content knowledge
Providing accommodations and modifications as needed
Planning and implementation of standards-based instruction
Establishing a positive classroom environment and culture for learning
Analyzing data and action-planning
Providing reports for and attending IEP meetings
Providing data and reports that are evidence of student progress
