Bellerive CountryClub is Hiring a Sommelier (FT) Near Creve Coeur, MO

Bellerive Country Club is seeking an engaging and charismatic Sommelier to join our team. The Sommelier will be responsible for overseeing the Club’s wine and beverage program(s) and provide exceptional service to members and guests. The Sommelier will recommend wine varieties to club members and guests, supervises wine serving and collaborates with winemakers / vendors to review selections and achieve best cost efficiencies.
The Sommelier will also be responsible for planning and implementing service concepts and budgets; recruiting, training, and supervising bartenders and service-related personnel to always ensure the expectations of the members and guests are consistently exceeded. 
Bellerive Country Club is a private country club in St. Louis with over 500 members. Founded in 1897, Bellerive underwent a $19 million renovation in 2019/2020 that included a complete refurbishment of the 80,000 square feet clubhouse, the addition of a full-service casual dining facility and private event space, fitness center, and halfway house. Bellerive’s other amenities include a professionally staffed and nationally recognized, industry award-winning 18-hole championship golf course, which has hosted several professional golf championships and is scheduled to host the 2026 BMW Championship and 2030 Presidents Cup, a professionally staffed state-of-the-art racquets facility with clay and hard courts, pickleball courts, and paddle tennis courts, bocce courts, and an Olympic size swimming pool. Bellerive proudly offers extensive junior programming, including camps, golf, tennis, and swimming lessons, organized and competitive leagues, and onsite childcare.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain an extensive wine and beverage list(s) that meets the needs and preferences of the club’s members and guests. Research new wines, beers, and liquors, makes purchasing decisions, and ensures that all beverage lists remain current and up to date.
  • Provide expert wine service to members and guests during dining hours, ensuring that they have a memorable experience. This includes recommending wines that pair well with menu items, suggesting wines for special occasions, and providing insights into the history and profile of each wine.
  • Manage the wine, beer, and liquor inventory, ensuring that it is property stored, rotated, and maintained. This involves tracking inventory levels, placing orders for new inventory, and overseeing the receipt of new shipments.
  • Develop and lead wine, beer, and liquor education programs for members and staff. This may include hosting tastings, wine pairing dinners, and education seminars on different regions and styles.
  • Train other service staff members on wine, beer, and liquor knowledge, service techniques, and proper storage and handling.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of all bar areas, glassware, and equipment through regular inspections.
  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises bar personnel according to established club procedures.
  • Responsible for conducting employee reviews for beverage department personnel. 
  • Ensures that all laws applicable to beverage operations are consistently followed.
  • Works with the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage, Banquet/Events Manager, and Catering team to ensure efficient beverage service in all the club’s outlets and for special functions creating fun, unique beverage ideas.
  • Ensures Jonas point of sale, Uncorked, inventory, and menus are always up to date with offerings and pricing.
  • Orders and oversees all glassware, barware, and banquet bar needs (large rolling cooler bins, small wares) to ensure all pop-up bars look aesthetically pleasing.
  • Develops the budget for the Beverage Department; monitors and forecasts financial information and takes corrective action as necessary to help ensure that financial goals are met.
  • Develops and monitors labor forecasts and budgets; takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Handles feedback from club members, guests, and others relative to the Beverage Department.
  • Assists with private parties and service in food and beverage outlets when necessary.
  • Monitors bar closing procedures (checklist) and ensures that areas are secure.
  • Other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Director/Assistant Director of Food and Beverage or other members of the Food and Beverage leadership team.
Qualifications / Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate Degree or higher in hospitality management or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward/Stewardess or similar role required.
  • Prior experience in hospitality or a vineyard preferred.
  • Certification as a Sommelier required.
  • Food safety certification is required.
