Bell-Carter Packaging is Hiring a Quality Assurance Inspector Near Portland, OR

Mission:

This position exists to ensure quality and food safety at Bell-Carter Packaging through the effective inspection of the product and the proper recording of quality data.

Key Result Areas (KRA's)

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Record Keeping

1. Completes daily quality reports, including Production and Quality Certification Sheets.

2. Completes Hold Request Forms as needed.

3. Performs validation/verification of all jobs against line lead paperwork.

4. Maintains complete and accurate records using digital, as well as paper and pen, record keeping systems as provided.

5. Accurately records/maintains damages for each job.

6. Operates and navigates the inventory management system to ensure traceability and accuracy of production consumptions, creation, and documentation

7. Finalizes reconciliation of raw product, materials, labels, damages, and finished goods.

Communication and Teamwork:

1. Communicates with the production and warehouse teams to maintain records and databases.

2. Communicates QA information with other team members as necessary and/or as directed.

3. Relieves other QA inspectors as needed for breaks, absences, etc., and/or at the direction of management.

4. Encourages a positive team-oriented atmosphere.

Training and Support:

1. Leads by example in all behaviors for team members by stringently following all safety and quality protocols.

2. Teams up with Production Line Leads to function as tandem backup for the production supervisor if needed.

3. Trains all new workers in related job functions providing feedback to leadership.

4. Drives continuous improvement by not only offering up innovative ideas, but also open mindedly leading trial efforts of new processes and practices.

5. Coaches all team members in regards to safety and quality expectations at all levels of the business.

Quality Assurance and Food Safety

1. Performs all QA functions, including but not limited to recording and correcting all findings on the Quality Certification sheet.

2. Conducts periodic line audits to ensure data accuracy.

3. Conducts GMP audits to ensure compliance.

4. Performs cycle counts on jobs to close within a standard variance.

5. Tracks production by lot and expiration date to maintain full traceability.

6. Performs other duties and assists other team members as required.

Production Support

1. Creates pallet tags for each job with accuracy.

2. Assists with inventory counts and processes including cycle counts as needed based on reconciliation accuracy.

3. Performs production functions process checks, including pre-operational checks, sanitation verifications, label checks, weight checks, package integrity checks, and product sampling.

4. Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor.

5. Participates in company continuous improvement activities.

Safety:

1. Participates in departmental and Company Safety Training Program to drive continuous improvement in safety culture and behaviors.

2. Understands the safety requirements that pertain to the job.

3. Ensures that all personnel working/passing around their work area do so in a safe manner consistent with the safety directives of the company and food safety.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Computer skills and experience working with an operating system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and follow simple instructions, short letters, and memos. Ability to write simple letters and memos. Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to read, speak and write in English. Bi-lingual Spanish is preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers. Ability to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to use cheat sheets to calculate cases on a pallet.

TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS

Must be able to manage multiple tasks and handle shifting priorities.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few possible choices in routine situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to fluctuating temperatures, extreme cold, and/or extreme heat, gas or fumes, moving equipment, and machinery. Climbing on ladders and platforms. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Must be able to work regular weekdays, as well as Saturday, Sunday, Holidays, and other shifts and overtime as needed.

SQF/AIB QUALIFICATIONS Ability to understand all SQF and AIB quality procedures that apply to this department.
