Typical Schedule (2 shifts): 

7:30am-4:00pm or 1:00pm – 9:30pm (weekends included)

Season runs from April 1st through October 31st 

The Seasonal Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing daily hands-on physical labor required to keep all parks, open spaces, and public amenities, including public dog runs and restrooms, hard surfaces, waste management and community spaces under the jurisdiction of Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) in a clean, safe, and operable condition. The incumbent should be conscious of, sensitive to, and proactive towards making BPCA a model of sustainable practices and kept to the standards in which all those who live, work, and visit Battery Park City (BPC) have come to expect. As with all positions, this position will continually exemplify and promote the core values, mission, and culture of BPCA. 

Essential Duties:

• Assist in the daily waste management throughout BPC, which includes collecting waste streams and litter in indoor and outdoor spaces, operating compactors, and following policies and procedures for BPCA’s zero waste initiatives. 
• Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the open spaces and public amenities, such as removing graffiti and stickers, power washing paths, and hardscapes, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness. 
• Assist in the daily grooming and resetting of the playgrounds, dog runs and public restrooms which includes, litter removal, restocking supplies,
• Assist in permitted and programed events as assigned in managing waste, setting up, breaking down and general oversight and clean up.
• Safely and effectively operate and maintain hand tools such as weeding knives, brooms, mops, dust pans, vacuums and rakes. 
• Safely and effectively operate powered vehicles and equipment such as electric trucks, leaf blowers and powe washers. 
• Assist in programmed and permitted events as assigned to set-up, clean-up, and/or manage waste.
• Collaborate with Maintenance Technicians and other staff to complete assigned tasks. 
• Identify and report park issues timely and appropriately such as park violations, park issues and safety concerns. 
• Use personal protective equipment as appropriate and maintain a high standard for workplace safety. 
• Maintain professionalism at all times, including when interacting with the public. 
• Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position as designated by Supervisors or Managers

Required Qualification: 

• High School diploma or GED
• Previous maintenance or porter experience 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Certifications and/or trainings relevant to the maintenance of parks and/or open spaces 
• Experience working in public park settings
• One or more years of maintenance and/or porter experience 
• Possess a valid U.S Driver’s License

• Ability to work well in a team but also be self-motivated when working independently

Physical Requirements:

• Be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather
• Stand for long periods of time 
• Perform repetitive movements 
• Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs.
• Use their hands/body to control, use, and feel objects, tools or controls
