Barrie Administration is Hiring a Director Community Engagement & Exec Asst Near Silver Spring, MD

The Director of Community Engagement and Executive Assistant to the HOS will be a strong relationship builder, cultivating partnerships and collaboration throughout the Barrie Community of staff, families, alumni, and trustees. The DoC will collaborate with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), managing and recruiting volunteers from Barrie School families. Additionally, this person will collaborate with the Director of Admission to support engagement of prospective families and the Director of Advancement to support fundraising and alumni outreach. The DoC will provide support to HoS by coordinating communications, schedules, and logistics for various school events and operations. The person in this position will serve in a uniquely collaborative role, innovating and overseeing engagement initiatives with colleagues throughout the Barrie School community.
This is a dynamic opportunity for an enterprising project manager to work closely with the Head of School and the staff, faculty, and community of one of the DMV area's leading independent schools.
In support of Community Engagement (40%)
  • Collaborate with the Barrie PTO Chair, Head of School, and Barrie School staff to coordinate PTO meetings and events, and communicate with volunteers regularly to strengthen their involvement and engagement within the Barrie School community.
  • Oversee the implementation of PTO event logistics, volunteer recruitment, and volunteer management. Coordinate the PTO Parent Class Representatives Program.
  • Partner with the Head of School spouse to coordinate any gatherings in the HoS residence.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admission to organize Summer and Fall programming to welcome and transition newly enrolled families into the Barrie School Community
  • Work collaboratively with the Advancement Team to plan and execute recognition events for donors and volunteers in coordination with the HoS
  • Assist with planning and volunteer recruitment for Annual Benefit.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to host 2 to 3 alumni events each year
  • Partner with the Head of School and the Director of DEI to help coordinate evening DEI focused gatherings with parents and families
In support of Barrie’s Head of School (40%)
  • Provide support and partnership with the HoS Office in all school operations
  • Coordinate the HoS’s calendar and project manage tasks accordingly
  • Maintain confidentiality of information flowing in and out of HoS office, particularly sensitive, financial, HR-related, and/or personal matters
  • Network with key stakeholders, including preparing agenda for staff meetings, and completing annual reports for MDOE and updating NAIS listings
In support of the Board of Trustees (20%)
  • Work in collaboration with Board Chair and Head of School to coordinate dates, set-up, and food for Board, Finance, and Committee meetings
  • Work with the Head of School to help prepare reports for the Board of Trustees
  • Update Trustee Portal on a monthly basis with copies of all Board minutes, Head of School Reports, Financial reports, etc.
  • Maintain and update annual Board of Trustees roster
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 4 to 8 years of relevant event planning, executive support, volunteer management, or other related field. Experience within an independent school or non-profit setting is a plus
  • Deep and abiding commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Maturity, diplomacy, good judgment, and discretion.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, and ability to hold and maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to successfully build relationships with colleagues and families
  • Excellent computer skills including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, Masters Degree is a plus
This is a newly created position where an entrepreneurial and experienced professional will have an opportunity to define the scope of the role and make a significant impact on a school community. This person will serve on the Senior Administrative Team and will report directly to the Head of School.
