The controller is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, and ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data and reporting.
Accounting:
Oversee the general accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
Financial Analysis:
Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for cost reduction or revenue generation.
Provide insights to support decision-making.
Compliance and Regulations:
Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards, including tax regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Internal Controls:
Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
Implement and enforce financial policies and procedures.
Audit Preparation:
Prepare for and cooperate with internal and external audits.
Address audit findings and recommendations.
Cash Management:
Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure the organization's financial stability.
Monitor and control expenses and disbursements.
Team Management:
Supervise and lead the accounting and payroll team.
Provide guidance, training, and development opportunities to staff.
Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings.
Financial Software and Systems:
Utilize financial software and systems to streamline accounting and reporting processes.
Experience in Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A master's degree or CPA certification may be preferred.
Several years of experience in financial management, accounting, or a related role preferably with experience in independent schools.
Strong knowledge of financial regulations and standards.
Proficiency in financial software and systems.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
