The Position:The Safety & Compliance Manager, reporting to Sr. Director of Safety & Security, is responsible for developing, overseeing, and enforcing all safety, food safety and regulatory compliance activities and programs. The Safety and Compliance Manager requires detailed knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Food and Drug Administration regulations, Hazardous Material handling and how to use those guidelines to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
The Safety & Compliance Manager must continually focus on the improvement of processes to ensure customers’ needs are being met, employees are working safely, and all required security documentation is completed.
The compensation range for this position is 85K-95K per year, depending on experience.
Your Day-to Day:- Lead company-wide employee training programs in regard to Safety, Food Safety & Hazardous Material handling to ensure compliance to all applicable standards and regulations and to reduce incidents.
- Continuously measure and evaluate the effectiveness of Barrett’s current safety program in meeting our goals.
- Drive employee involvement at all levels of the organization and encourage active participation in the safety programs.
- Responds to on-site emergencies and investigates workplace injuries and accidents.
- Advance, prioritize and direct programs to reduce injuries, accidents, and customer complaints to drive a culture of safety and sanitation best practices.
- Monitor and maintain state/federal licensure.
- Schedule and facilitate local and 3rd party food safety inspections and drive successful results in audits.
- Develops means to minimize risk and loss while ensuring compliance to OSHA regulations and Company Policies
- Analyze data to form proposals for improvements (e.g. implementation of new technology)
- Runs informational meetings for employees regarding proper health and safety habits that help maintain a safe workplace.
- Identifies and correct potential hazards before they lead to injury or loss.
- Identify root causes of non-conformance and implement corrective actions.
- Oversees safety and compliance training for new and existing employees for all facilities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Position requires approximately 25% travel. May increase due to business needs
What You'll Bring to the Table:High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in related field strongly preferred.
Certifications and/or completed course work in safety and food compliance preferred
A minimum of 5 years of experience in Occupational Safety, Food Safety or related field required
Detailed knowledge of current OSHA, FDA and local security standards and how they impact the workplace.
Working knowledge of Hazardous Material/Dangerous Goods transportation regulations (49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG), operations, and procedures. Working knowledge of United Parcel Service and Federal Express shipping requirements including packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation, required.
Working knowledge of warehouse operations and warehouse management systems.
Ability to read, write and communicate in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills strongly preferred).
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Work is performed in a typical business office environment requiring walking, sitting, and standing. Prolong periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and using a phone.
Work may also be performed in a warehouse environment in which temperature can vary from extreme heat to extreme cold. Noise level can be moderate to loud.
Frequent requirements include ability to reach with hand and arms and stand and walk.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds.
