Purpose:

The Director of Catering and Convention Services is responsible for maximizing catering revenue and profit for the hotel by leading the catering sales strategy for the hotel, generate revenue through his/her own account base and oversee the catering sales team. This person will be responsible for selling, planning, and executing all the meeting, social and wedding events of the banquet space in the Hotel.

Essential Functions:

  • Solicit new and develop existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication.
  • Participate in catering sales presentations, property site tours and customer meetings.
  • Reach individual booking revenue goals by selling including: space requirements, times, equipment, menus, themes, decorations, etc. Monitor convention activities on-site to ensure accurate and timely execution of convention/function arrangements.
  • Complete contracts and coordinate with the appropriate areas in the hotel.
  • Produce and distribute necessary information to communicate any changes updating information to hotel departments.
  • Use internal and external resources and data to develop strategic plans to incorporate local corporate and social catering segments.
  • Understand sales and business processes, support corporate and hotel goals and contribute to enhancement of customer value.
  • Manage catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel. Identify customer business requirements and create customer offers, which result in increased revenue share for the hotel.
  • Monitor achievement of objectives for the sales team and take appropriate action to correct shortfalls versus the annual marketing plan.
  • Focus on personal sales efforts to achieve maximum revenue return from key accounts.
  • Focus on achieving annual hotel revenue goals as agreed upon and established in the annual budget.
  • Use professional sales techniques to negotiate the best possible terms and conditions that satisfy customer requirements. Articulate and leverage the benefits of the hotel to close sales opportunities.
  • Provide oversight to overall Catering function as well as Catering team consisting of Catering Director and Convention Services Manager. Establish solicitation goals with Catering Director and monitor all revenue goals and solicitation goals are met or exceeded

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years previous hotel sales, events experience with demonstrated sales, negotiation and closing skills experience preferred.

Command of the English language both written and verbal. Well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Self-starting personality with an even disposition. Always maintain a professional appearance and manner. Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player. Ability to work beyond standard hours when necessary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the guests’ needs. Ability to comprehend and follow instructions from supervisor. Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent with at least one (1) year hospitality experience.
