GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The sales and distribution location for this position is at our headquarters in Birmingham, AL, for a multi-location wholesale distributor. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering paper, packaging, industrial, and wide format supplies and equipment to customers.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Our delivery drivers are responsible for the pickup, transport, and drop off packages and shipments from the Athens warehouses to businesses within the area, as well as other Athens Paper Distribution Centers. Will operate trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)—the combined weight of the vehicle, passengers, and cargo up to 54,000-80,000 pounds or less
· Load and unload cargo
· Communicate with customers to determine pickup and delivery needs
· Report any incidents they encounter on the road to supervisor
· Follow all applicable traffic laws
· Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel
· Keep their truck and associated equipment clean and in good working order
· Handle and process customer payments
· Handle paperwork, such as receipts or delivery confirmation notices
· Maintain a Driver’s Log as required by the DOT utilizing an electronic logging
device
· Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor / Leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
· High School diploma or GED equivalent
· 2 years of delivery driving experience preferred
· Ability to possess and maintain a Class A CDL
· Obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card
· Ability to operate a power or manual pallet jack (minimum of 2 years' experience preferred)
· Commitment to excellent customer service
