ArtCenter College of Design is Hiring a Facilities Manager Near Pasadena, CA

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Facilities Manager to join our team.
The salary range for this position: $75,000.00 - 90,000.00

Finalsalary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to therole, and internal equity.

ArtCenter is aprivate nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and UniversityCommission (WSCUC).

Every positionat ArtCenter plays an important part in carrying out the values, goals,strategic vision, and mission of the College. This includes diversity,equity, inclusion, access, belonging (DEIAB) and culture.

The Facilities Manager will oversee, manage and supervise the building maintenance staff with all building related systems maintenance, repairs and adjustments such as heating, air and ventilation (HVAC), mechanical, lighting and electrical, plumbing, delivery of materials, equipment and supplies, landscaping and assigning manpower support for various departments.

Essential Functions

Maintenance — 50%

  • Manage all aspects of building operations
  • Establish criteria for assessing the work performed by all facilities mechanics and technicians
  • Oversee work performed by contractors and liaise with outside vendors
  • Recommend building improvements
  • Respond to email, phone call, radio calls and in-person requests for maintenance throughout the ArtCenter community
  • Maintain and manage preventative maintenance schedules
  • Manage department repair and capital improvement budgets: ensure compliance with budgetary constraints: and forecast and assist Director with planning of facility improvements.

Supervisory — 40%

  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, orientation, training and supervision of department staff and contractors; oversee performance evaluation process, ensuring consistent use of all applicable policies and procedures; apply performance management for improved performance, make recommendations in discipline and terminations, as required.
  • General departmental leadership and oversight, overseeing the department budget, strategic planning, logistics, events, administrative support to implement operations
  • Prepare reports and inputs data related to the Facilities budget and expenditures. This includes placing orders for supplies/equipment tracking incoming invoices and posting same with Shipping and Receiving.
  • Comply and ensure that safety and dress codes are carried out in accordance with department policies, including wearing assigned PPE

Other – 10%

  • Manage, retain and organize all related facilities files and documents in the department’s shared drive.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Working Environment

The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

This position is an onsite, full-time position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as defined by the department. The position is eligible for flexible scheduling and can be performed onsite, hybrid in-region, with at least 3-4 days onsite or may be required as a condition of employment. The demands of this work may include weekends or evenings.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time using shop equipment including computers, viewing computer monitors, hand tools, saws, power tools etc.; interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is exposure to loud noises, chemicals, fumes, dust and heat with the HVAC equipment such as compressors and exhaust fans while utilizing issued safety equipment. This position also requires work in an outdoor environment, with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an shop setting; to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; including, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, squatting, and twisting; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight (up to 50 or team-lift up to 100 pounds); to operate office and shop equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.

Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.

Schedule: This position may require some weekend and evening hours.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher or technical degree from a recognized trade school, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in maintenance and/or building repairs with supervisory experience
  • Valid California Driver License
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language to be able to interact effectively with staff, faculty and vendors
  • Proficient with desktop computer, Microsoft Suite, Building Maintenance System Controls Software, Facilities Maintenance Software and able to produce related reports and staff evaluations.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi- cultural environment, with all levels of faculty and staff, outside professionals and other vendors
  • A commitment to diversity, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities
  • Knowledge of sustainability 'best practices' related to facilities management, and demonstrated experience in planning for, implementing, managing, tracking and reporting an environmental management system
  • Experience in building recovery management in the event of a disaster is a plus
  • Possess a thorough understanding of preventative/predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance, design maintainability and constructability, facilities renewal, and condition assessment.
  • Knowledge of local and regional codes and regulations.
  • Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Ability to travel between campuses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Facilities, Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
  • Prior experience in higher education preferred
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM)
