The salary range for this position: $100,000.00 - 115,000.00

Reporting to the associateprovost, teaching and learning, the director, center for innovative teaching& learning (CITL) will provide mentorship and resources for faculty toinnovate and develop their pedagogy, teaching, course design and delivery,through a focus on instructional design and course development. This position will maintainthe current work on pedagogy, teaching and learning through workshops,coaching, and resource development, and professional developmentopportunities for faculty for engagement with research, making and scholarships.The incumbent is responsible for managing the CITL and associated programs for digitalteaching and learning, faculty development, and student learning resources(Peer Coaching, Writing Center), and orientation activity with new facultymembers across their first term and first year. This position supervises themanager and instructional designer, digital teaching & learning and thewriting center supervisors. This position will collaborate with the Heavin MediaProduction Studio for educational content creation and college programs foronline learning, and with the managing director, libraries and archives, andother campus partners to plan and manage a College learning commons.

This is a full-time position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as defined by the department. The position is eligible for flexible scheduling and can be performed on-site, hybrid in-region (with at least three days onsite) or may be required as a condition of employment. The demands of this work may include weekends or evenings. 

Essential Functions

Teaching and Learning Resources and Support / Faculty Development — 50%

  • Provide regular opportunities for faculty development through 1:1 coaching for pedagogy, student engagement and success, evaluation and grading, course and curriculum design, technology integration
  • Conduct observations to document in-class teaching practices and design and implement an observation form that can be used in conjunction with Faculty Performance Review and other processes
  • Organize and conduct a New Faculty Orientation and first term / first year programs, with manager, DTL, as part of a comprehensive onboarding program for new faculty members in cooperation with Employee Experience (EEE/HR)) and the Office of Faculty Affairs
  • Support course, curriculum and program development for online teaching and learning including badging and certificates for degree and non-degree programming
  • Work closely with the associate provost for teaching & learning and the Faculty Council to develop a community to provide oversight of faculty development and best teaching practices, including a special emphasis on updating faculty with contemporary pedagogy, technology, and emerging teaching methods for student success and DEIAB, through in-term programming and an annual symposium on teaching and learning
  • With the digital teaching and learning (DTL) manager, develop and maintain a Center for Teaching and Learning for faculty support around best-practices, pedagogy, and digital teaching and learning with a series of term-timely activities, programs and workshops for faculty (2-3 per term), and regular notices with important information for faculty teaching in the term
  • Work with the Heavin Studio to help faculty create educational content and on college programs for remote instruction and online teaching and learning and for hyflex and remote instructional delivery
  • Collaborate with the Center for the Student Experience (CSE) for programs that support teaching and learning and help faculty engage in student success, including resources they need to effectively work with underprepared or underperforming students and to deliver a Faculty Panel presentation on Critique Strategies at the Student Orientation
  • Work with Study Away to create and conduct onboarding and professional development opportunities for Faculty leading trips abroad
  • Work with Educational Partnerships to offer an orientation and support for faculty wanting to participate in Sponsored Projects and DesignStorms
  • Work with Marketing and Communications to assist in promoting faculty accomplishments
  • Facilitate awareness of college policies for faculty and students, including Title IX, Mandatory Reporting, Academic Integrity, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Student with Accommodations, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

CITL Management / Supervision – 30%

  • Supervise the manager, digital teaching and learning and instructional design, who is responsible for the LMS and technology to support teaching and learning, including college supported tools and platforms
  • Supervise the writing center supervisors (graduate, undergraduate)
  • Maintain online resources for teaching and learning (intranet and external resources)
  • Work with the writing center supervisors to develop parallel programs for student academic mentoring and studio mentoring as best supports faculty efforts in instruction
  • Work with the writing center supervisors and DTL manager to oversee the Peer Coaching program and identify opportunities for peer coach professional development
  • Organize and conduct from pilot a TA/student worker Orientation and training program for new TA/student workers (Collaborate with EEE/HR)
  • Provide departmental leadership and oversight of strategic planning, logistics, events, and administrative support to implement operations
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, learning and development, and fair and equitable compensation grid placement of division’s faculty and staff; oversee performance evaluation process, ensure consistent use of all applicable policies and procedures, including Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); counsel, discipline and makes recommendations in terminations
  • Work with the department of environment health and safety, maintain a safe and secure work environment for students, faculty and staff
  • Manage and administer programming budgets to ensure sound fiscal expenditures and oversite
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and ArtCenter polices

Research and Assessment – 15%

  • Work closely with the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) to coordinate and oversee assessment of the course and department learning outcomes
  • Work with DTL and the CEE on the process and best-practices for regular distribution and collection of syllabi with faculty
  • Participate in the Faculty Assessment Liaison Cohort and support faculty assessment work at the course and program level
  • Work with the Research Committee to support HRPP/IRB and help coach faculty with the IRB process
  • Serve as needed as a member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for research involving human subjects

Non-Essential Functions — 5%

  • Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and/or councils
  • Keep current on educational trends, competitors, and best practices
  • Attend conferences and seminars
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 5–7 years of professional teaching in higher education
  • Experience with academic administration or management with a focus on one of the following areas; faculty development and enrichment, pedagogy and scholarship of teaching and learning, student learning models, curriculum or course design, assessment
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in designing, developing, organizing, and leading college-wide professional activities such as workshops to promote development in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing educational development practices and pedagogical innovations at the course and program level
  • Demonstrated experience with online / remote teaching and learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to work effectively within the institution
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices within Art Center’s diverse communities
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
  • Must be able to work with and understand our culturally diverse student and faculty body with empathy and diplomacy to meet their needs and goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in art and design or project and problem-based higher education
  • Master’s or terminal Degree in Education, Student Development, Student Affairs, or a related field
  • Certificate or significant experience in Instructional Design and/or online course and curriculum design.
  • Familiarity with assessment practices for accreditation in higher education, preferably with a UDOE-designated regional accreditor
