Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant II coordinates clinical care, including direct and indirect patient care, and assists the clinical supervisor and physicians in infection control, inventory, and equipment maintenance. This role is to assist under the authorized delegation of physicians and must demonstrate compassionate patient care, knowledgeable clinical procedures, and meticulous administrative duties.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform chart review and preparation before the visit.
- Engage the patient before the office visit to prepare them and set expectations.
- Plan for any necessary services or steps required in the clinic per established protocols.
- Ensure efficient patient flow by preparing for the visit, rooming patients promptly, getting necessary information, and assisting the provider with staying on their schedule in a timely manner.
- Obtain vital signs, patient medical history, medication dosage, etc.
- Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens; performs basic waived lab tests such as urine dipsticks, rapid strep, throat culture, and wound culture.
- Assist providers as needed with medical examinations and procedures.
- Provide patient care in line with training, certification, and regulations (e.g., vaccine administration, dressing changes, catheterizations).
- Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the care provider and broader care team.
- Supports and schedules other diagnostic and care needs for the patient in collaboration with the care team (e.g., x-ray).
- Ensure exam rooms are clean, safe, stocked, and ready for the next patient visit.
- Provide instructions and directions to patients regarding diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments within established protocols.
- Maintain accurate and strict confidentiality of patient information in electronic or manual systems as established by the appropriate protocols, regulations, and policies.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies as necessary.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinical operations.
- Serve as a primary to onboard and mentor new medical assistants.
- Participate in quality audits or improvement initiatives to improve patient experience, quality of care, and clinic efficiency.
- Perform administrative duties, including but not limited to answering incoming telephone calls, obtaining and verifying patient information, patient check-in/out, coordinating, and facilitating accurate patient appointments.

Qualifications:
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Medical Assistant Certification is required and will be verified prior to employment.
- At least one year of work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Certification in BLS is required and will be verified prior to employment.
- EMR experience or proficiency required.
- Proficiency in triaging patients, phlebotomy, administering injections, obtaining vitals, X-rays, and processing specimens.

Travel:
- As part of your position’s requirements, you are expected to travel to other sites within a reasonable geographic region.
Physical Requirements for the Job:
- Must be able to listen, sit, stand, bend, stoop, and walk throughout the day.
- Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be in good physical condition to maneuver patients when necessary.
