This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO). The employee will provide executive leadership and oversight for the full scope of OCSO roles and responsibilities, including: Security Program Management, Resilience/Continuity Program Management, Facilities Management for the Capitol Police Buildings and Grounds and Security Infrastructure Planning, Design, Construction and Management for the Capitol Campus.

Applicants must clearly show possession and demonstrated leadership experience, normally obtained over several years by serving in positions at the GS-15 level or equivalent for each Executive Core Qualification (ECQ) and Professional Technical Qualification (PTQ). We have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional leader to become the Chief Security Officer (CSO). The leader will be responsible for providing executive leadership and oversight for the Architect of the Capitol’s security infrastructure and operations to include resilience planning and continuity of operations, security policies and procedures, facilities management and risk management in an all hazards environment.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance/SCI.
The CSO will support the AOC with all matters related to the Capitol Police Board and the security of the Capitol Complex. The CSO will perform executive duties that require balancing the needs of stakeholders, including Congressional leadership, Senate and House Committees and Staffs, other Congressional agencies, the U.S. Supreme Court, visitors and the public overall.
In this capacity, the CSO will perform the following responsibilities:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Successful candidates must have strong leadership and facility operations experience. Must have experience managing budgets and workloads. Experience in managing infrastructure and/or security programs in a significant complex of buildings and grounds is required. Demonstrated experience working with law enforcement organizations executing relevant functions at a city/county local government level or with relevant organizations working in campus environment or installations.
This position serves at the pleasure of the Architect of the Capitol. This position is designated as emergency essential.
