Job Summary

Aptive Resources seeking a full-time Senior Technical Writer/Editor with demonstrated experience writing and editing engaging content for large-scale federal programs. This candidate will be responsible for developing compelling stories, narratives and key messages and have experience working on writing and editing for the Department of Energy and/or energy and electricity infrastructure, programs, and policies. The ideal candidate will have experience working with all levels of leadership and a thorough understanding of energy-related industry sectors.

This is a mid-senior level position located in Washington, DC and will require reporting to the client site with some potential for remote work with client approval.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist the client with planning, managing, and developing written products which increase audience understanding of DOE’s activities and mission.
• Work with senior government leaders to gather, analyze and compose technical information required for deliverables.
• Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
• Employ plain language principles to ensure materials are easy to read, understand and use.
• Perform thorough technical editing processes to ensure readability, technical accuracy, and consistency of style and language.
• Support analysis of stakeholder feedback, existing resources, identify problems, risk management, and build out recommendations.
• Provide technical writing services on a wide variety of subjects including the technological aspects of the grid, grid modernization, and energy-related industry sectors; information on recent events, product developments, specifications; and policies, markets, economics, regulations, and utility industry changes and/or challenges various types of energy and electricity products, such as presentations, reports, and communications guidance.
• Maintain familiarity with energy-related policies and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• 8 years of writing, editing, communications, and/or journalism experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English or a related field.
• Expert in the use of AP style.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
