Appalachian Mountain Cl is Hiring a HR Coordinator Near Boston, MA

Position: Human Resources Coordinator

Details: 35 hours per week. 

Pay: $20-30 per hour

Location: Remote, with preference for candidates close to either Boston or New Hampshire AMC locations.

Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club (www.outdoors.org) is the oldest conservation, education and recreation organization in the United States. The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Appalachian region.  Spread over six states, in a variety of facilities delivering mission-focused programs, AMC employees are smart, high-achieving, active and passionate about their work. As such, they need an HR professional who can keep up with them! 

The Human Resources Coordinator is a multi-faceted role that is as dynamic as the organization. This is a great opportunity for someone with a footing in HR to grow into a strong Generalist. Responsibilities include a true variety of HR related areas – from payroll and benefits to recruitment and onboarding, all with a priority lens on creating a culture of inclusivity and belonging. No task is too big or too small, and the HR Coordinator must show resourcefulness in dealing with a variety of situations. 

What you’ll do: 

  • Keep things running: Coordinate with new hires and leadership to ensure a smooth on-boarding experience for all new hires.
  • Take the lead: Oversee all pre-employment obligations and requirements. 
  • Support the team: Streamline logistics associated with aspects of onboarding, compliance, employee engagement, recruiting and benefits/payroll. 

Onboarding:

  • Oversee and coordinate the entire onboarding process for all new hires 
  • Initiate pre-employment background checks as appropriate 
  • Collect and process new-hire onboarding documentation 
  • Use the Applicant Tracking System (ADP) to appropriately and accurately track candidate progress in the applicant tracking system as they progress through the hiring process
  • Conduct initial benefit meetings with all incoming full-time employees 
  • Implement and contribute to HR and payroll initiatives to improve onboarding processes 
  • Work closely with HR, Payroll, and Benefits Administrator 

Employee Engagement:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees with questions regarding onboarding, new hire paperwork and payroll 
  • Ensure new hires have technical assistance to properly complete any/all required onboarding obligations 
  • Assist managers with onboarding new employees and other payroll related items 
  • Ensure new hire and hiring manager compliance with onboarding task completion 
  • Support employee engagement initiatives such as events, newsletters, and wellness initiatives 

Compliance:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the organization is compliant with all required HR reporting (OSHA, ACA, EEO-1, etc.) and notice distribution (SARs, Notice of Creditable Coverage, etc.) 
  • Assist with uploading and updating documents in SharePoint system. 
  • Assist with maintaining LMS system for new hires, annual trainings, and compliance items

Recruiting:

  • Support recruiting strategies and hiring process with updating and posting job descriptions on our recruitment platform as well as other recruitment sites, scheduling interviews, and conducting reference checks

Benefits & Payroll:

  • Support Open Enrollment, Annual Review Process, and other initiatives

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 
  • You’ve spent at least 3 years in an HR or TA role.
  • You have the ability to travel to AMC’s locations 
  • You are highly diligent, organized, detail-oriented, and execution-driven 
  • You are an excellent communicator and writer 
    • You have strong organizational and follow up skills 
  • You have excellent customer service skills
    • You’re a positive influence and energy and view your role as critically important 
    • You can shift somewhat effortlessly from firefighter to project planner to creative strategist and back, on a continuous play loop
