Job Description
Conducts complex experimental research in a research lab, functioning as a specialist or technical expert. Manages one or more phase(s) of a major project(s) or all activities of a small project. Ensures overall lab compliance with all associated rules & regulations.
K.S.A.'s:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 5 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 year lab/bench or other relevant experience.
Working knowledge of scientific equipment, coding and scripting (including quality control of one's own code), statistics, digital signal processing, ability to troubleshoot, work independently, and function as a team member is essential. Therefore, experience in regular interaction with outside groups is highly desirable.
Ability to seek and integrate project-related knowledge from multiple sources.
Psychological and/or neuroscientific domain expertise is a plus but not required for candidates who are able to self-teach such expertise as needed.
Ability to scaffold positive interactions with participants and conduct behavioral management of participants, including pediatric participants with and without behavioral, communicative and cognitive challenges
Excellent command of the English language and the ability to communicate effectively.
Strong organizational skills including the ability to establish priorities, manage project flow and deadlines, adapt as needed to new circumstances, adapt promptly to a large variety of requests, and the ability to keep the workplace clean and organized.
Job Duties:
Acting as a technical expert or specialist in a particular field within a research lab, establishes &
optimizes protocols & coordinates conduct of multiple complex experiments.
Conducts and supervises research studies. Performs Quality Insurance/Quality Control procedures, including to ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.
Reviews results & revises protocols as necessary to ensure that project objectives are attained.
Oversees & manages lab databases which may include ensuring that that data are collected & entered correctly. Reviews & analyzes data. Creates and verifies analysis pipelines and scripts. Creates computer models, graphs, reports & summaries for use in publications, professional journals, & grant applications.
Co-authors scientific papers for presentation & publication.
Researches & participates in obtaining funding. Participates in development of research studies and procedures.
Creates & maintains lab manuals regarding operating, safety, etc. procedures.
Participates in
Creates lab financial plan & budget/audit expenses. Obtains sales quotes for lab equipment & supplies.
Reviews & adjusts expenses to decrease costs.
Oversees set-up, integration, routine testing, repair & maintenance of all lab equipment. Ensures that lab supplies are ready & available when necessary.
Supervises other research personnel as needed.
Coordinates with collaborators and other parts of the research team.
Other job functions as assigned.
