    SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
    Burns Park Elementary School is located near the University of Michigan's main campus and adjacent to the lovely city park which shares its name. Serving a highly diverse population from multiple neighborhoods, parents and families are deeply invested and active in their school community. While maintaining many long-held traditions such as the Burns Park Run, our community is responsive to the challenges of equity and culturally responsive programming for families from a very broad range of traditions, identities, and socio-economic backgrounds.
    Our teaching staff is balanced between longtime and established teachers and many younger in their practice. Points of growth and accomplishment include a community supported garden with a leadership role within the larger school community and a professional team that continues to excel in their understanding of neuro-diversity and the practice of differentiation, best practices for students with disabilities, and their benefit for all students through the principles of Universal Design for Learning.
    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Masters Degree in Education, elementary administration preferable.
    Valid Teaching Certificate with elementary endorsement.
    Minimum 5 years teaching and/or counseling experience at the elementary level preferred.
    Must hold a valid school administrator certificate, or show evidence of significant progress towards completion so that certification is achieved within the year hired.
    Proof of COVID vaccination required.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Assist the principal in Implementation and support of the District's operational goals as articulated by the Superintendent.
    Assist in providing a positive and safe school environment that is conducive to teaching and learning, including monitoring bus routes.
    Interact with students to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level; address achievement gaps.
    Assist in management and support of all building staff personnel including lunch time personnel.
    Analyze and use achievement data to implement, promote and assess program effectiveness.
    Evaluate instructional and non-instructional staff and make appropriate recommendations.
    Assist in providing general supervision to students (including extra-curricular activities).
    Assist in providing instructional leadership and professional development to building staff.
    Maintain positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agencies.
    Maintain a familiarity with compliance and programmatic requirements of Title I and Title III funding.
    Maintain familiarity with academic programs such as Everyday Math, Balanced Literacy, Read 180, System 44, Science Companion, and Social Studies.
    Maintain familiarity with grade level expectations and elementary assessments.
    Regular and reliable attendance.
    Other duties as assigned.
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    Communicate effectively and present information both in oral and in written form.
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    Interpret an extensive variety of statistical information and data related to student achievement.
    Understand through evidence of systematic study the current trends and best practices in elementary school organization and curriculum.
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and parents.
    Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
    Work with diverse ethnic and socio-economic groups.
    Work effectively with a minimum amount of supervision as a change agent within a school setting to improve overall student achievement.
    Perform under varying amounts of pressure.
    Utilize technological skills for both instruction and in the performance of administrative tasks.
    Work to reflect a good understanding of effective instructional practices and grade level content expectations as established by the State of Michigan
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The demands of the work day (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.) requires a moderate level of physical endurance. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
