Position Summary

The Physician Assistant Program Faculty position will involve teaching, assessment, advisement, and mentoring of physician assistant students in classroom, clinical, and other settings.

The principal faculty will be responsible as course director for the creation of the syllabus including creating student learning objectives and course learning outcomes; creating administering and evaluating assessments linked to course outcomes; evaluate adjunct/guest instructors and the course itself. Principal faculty will actively participate in continuous review and analysis of the program's effectiveness in preparing students for clinical rotations and at the end of the program for entry-level clinical practice. He/she will assist in preparation for program assessment by HLC, ARC-PA and others


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the annual review and revision of the PA program vision and mission statement
  • Participate in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of PA program curriculum; develop and continually update course syllabi for all courses for which faculty is course coordinator;
  • Participate in the evaluation of all students, all courses, and the PA program outcomes
  • Provide PA student instruction, assessment, and academic and professional behavior evaluation and advisement, as assigned;
  • Develop, administer and report mid-term, end-of-course, and all other didactic assessments
  • Provide data on all assessments for all courses for analysis;
  • Participate in the ongoing analysis of student, course and program data;
  • Participate in analysis of data to inform changes/adjustments to delivery, assessment and evaluation of students, courses, and program outcomes;
  • Provide remedial instruction, as needed and assigned;
  • Promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students;
  • Comply with faculty/staff policies and procedures;
  • Promote the mission of Concordia University to all faculty, staff, students, and to the community at large;
  • Work with CUAA faculty and staff on an ongoing basis to maintain program compliance with the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC-NCA) criteria for accreditation and reaccreditation;
  • Attend PA program and CUAA faculty meetings;
  • Attend and participate in PAEA or other similar faculty development workshops and conferences;
  • Participate in PA student selection;
  • Assist in the search process for selecting PA program faculty;
  • Fulfill the University's scholarship expectation through research, publication, grant development, creative achievement, and other endeavors consistent with the Faculty Handbook;
  • Perform service activities that advance the PA program, and the PA profession, including assistance in the recruitment, orientation, and retention of PA students;
  • Participate in both PA program and CUAA committee work;
  • Participate in clinical practice;
  • Advise the program director of any problems related to behavior, academics or professionalism; fulfill faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook;
  • Complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Attend all required events, including but not limited to: weekly PA faculty meetings; plenary faculty meetings; graduation (Dec & May); and end of program faculty retreat

Physical Demands/Equipment


Education and Experience

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program and certification by NCCPA with current eligibility to be employed in Michigan
  • Must possess a Master's degree in physician assistant studies (or similar) with a minimum of two years full time clinical experience as a physician assistant
  • Program administrative or leadership experience; and excellent oral, written, organizational, and computer skills

Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree in a field related to medical science or education
  • Full time experience in higher education as a faculty member in a PA program
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and for scholarly activity

This is a full-time faculty position. Starting wage may be determined upon education and/or experience.
