We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sr. Policy Analyst IIon our Advocacy team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

As a Sr. Policy Analyst II you will assist in the development and implementation ofstrategies, projects, and resources
aimed at reducing administrative burdens in physicianpractices, to include advocating for payer policy reforms and increasingautomation of revenue cycle transactions throughout the health care industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advocate for Physicians

Advocate on behalf of physicians in standards development and health information technology organizations (e.g., HL7, CAQH CORE, X12, WEDI) through active participation in conference calls, in-person workgroup meetings, and submission of ballot comments.

Collaborate on cross-Advocacy administrative simplification activities, including coordination with colleagues on developing comments on federal and state legislation/regulation.

Assist in the development of advocacy documents, including presentations, briefing materials, testimony, and correspondence, for use in AMA advocacy on key burden reduction issues.

Represent the AMA at various national meetings, conferences, and speaking events, as requested.

Policy Research and Analysis

Monitor Federation of Medicine and AMA member complaints to identify widespread, problematic private health insurer policies that adversely affect physician practices; work with Director on advocacy strategies to address these concerns.

Conduct primary and secondary research to identify industry trends regarding administrative burdens to support AMA policy development and advancement.

Project Management

Create AMA educational resources (whitepapers, webinars, videos, etc.) focused on burden reduction topics that will support physicians and their staff in automating practice workflows, fighting unfair payer policies, and improving revenue cycle management.

Assist in dissemination of resources to physician members and Federation of Medicine.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

  1. Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree preferred in a health-related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in the health care industry. Knowledge of electronic standards development organizations (e.g., X12, NCPDP, HL7), health information technology, claims revenue cycle, and/or utilization management programs preferred.
  3. Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create avariety of document types (reports, correspondence,
    summaries, slide presentations, educational pieces, etc.)for different audiences.
  4. Excellent oral communication skills, includingthe ability to effectively, confidently, and professionally represent the AMAand physicians in external organizations. 
  5. Strong research and analytical skills, including theability to independently and efficiently locate
    information, evaluate source quality and researchmethodologies, and concisely present findings.
  6. Strong project management skills and ability to meettight deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ateam-focused environment.
  8. Some travel required.
