We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Policy Analyston our Marketing & Membership Experience team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

As a Policy Analyst for the Women Physicians Section (WPS) and Young PhysiciansSection (YPS) is responsible for the policy-related functions of the WPS andYPS and in that capacity (1) guides Section members through the WPS/YPS and AMApolicymaking processes, (2) conducts research and contributes to thedevelopment of resources for Section constituents, and (3) serves as a centerof expertise on women and young physician issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy-making and Subject Matter Expertise

  • Analyzes policy, data and the research literature on key women and young physician-related issues.
  • Serves as staff resource on women and young physician issues related to the AMA policymaking process.
  • Researches issues of interest to Section members.
  • In collaboration with Director, prepares AMA reports, position papers, and correspondence/briefing materials for the Board of Trustees and senior management.
  • Contributes content and expertise to Section communications and develops web content as assigned. Supports research and analysis of manuscripts for publication.
  • Researches and responds to physician and other internal/external stakeholder inquiries on issues of interest to Section members.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to the development of education programming and other resources for Section members.

Governance and Other Section Activities

  • Supports Section leaders in policy-related aspects of strategic planning and program development.
  • Builds, manages, and sustains professional relationships with Governing Council members and other Section leaders. Supports the work of Section committees and other leadership groups as assigned.
  • Contributes to the planning and execution of Section Governing Council meetings, Annual/Interim meetings, and other Section events.
  • Completes other tasks and projects for the Women Physicians Section, Young Physicians Section, and other Sections as assigned.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

1.Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, public policy/administration, health policy, public health, or other relevant field required.Master’s degree a plus.

2.1-3 years of experience in health care policy development, along with knowledge of the women and young physician constituencies, preferred.

3.Broad-based knowledge of U.S. health policy required.

4.Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write a diverse range of material, develop well thought-out policy positions, and edit material prepared by others.

5.Polished interpersonal skills including well-developed relationship building with medical students, physicians and staff.

6.Strong organization and prioritization skills.

7.Well-developed project management skills including the ability to initiate, manage, and execute multiple policy projects in a fast-paced team environment under tight time constraints.

8.Travel and extended hours, nights, and weekends as business demands dictate, required.
