We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Washington D.C. for a Lobbyist (Hybrid) on our Advocacy team. This position can be hybrid (working from both office and home), with a schedule to be determined by business needs.

As a Lobbyist (Hybrid), you will maintain effective liaison with assigned Congressional offices,healthcare organizations, and coalitions involved with health-related issues.Assure AMA policies and positions are brought to the attention of appropriateMembers of Congress, staff, and related health care associations andcoalitions; advocate directly for or against policy changes that are consistentwith AMA policy. Assure relevant information on legislation and coalitionactivities is brought to the attention of appropriate AMA officials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build and Maintain Relationships with Policymakers and Stakeholders

  • Initiate and maintain relationships with assigned Congressional offices while looking for opportunities to promote areas of mutual interest.
  • Monitor ongoing activities and advocate AMA's positions.
  • Identify opportunities to advance AMA's agenda.
  • Look for opportunities with Congress to promote areas of mutual interest.
  • Initiate and maintain liaisons with health professional organizations in Washington to promote legislative agenda.
  • Advocate AMA positions to stakeholders and relay information to AMA colleagues.
  • Support AMA Councils and Committees by informing them of current and forthcoming Congressional activity

Congressional Policies

  • Represent AMA's position before Congress and other relevant stakeholders and relay critical information to appropriate AMA officials.
  • Assist AMA Councils and Committees by informing them of current and forthcoming
  • Congressional activities andassist in developing policy recommendations on federal health programs.
  • Respond to requests from AMA Headquarters to obtain information, make appointments with Congressional offices, and identify conference participants and speakers.
  • Obtain timely information concerning federal legislative activities for Association use.
  • Provide strategic expertise on legislative proposals.
  • Identify opportunities to advance AMA's agenda; develop key issue objectives and communication plans to address relevant topics, collaborating across Advocacy and the AMA to develop messaging to policymakers, stakeholders, and others

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

1.Bachelor degree required; Law degree or master's degree preferred in Public Health, Business or Political Science

2.5 years' experience working with a member of Congress, Federal agencies, consulting/law firms, or national medical specialty societies on federal government health issues

3.Expertise regarding federal health programs and policy strongly preferred.

4.Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building and maintenance skills ,are critical for success.

5.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills. General understanding of current domestic affairs and their political implications.

6.Working knowledge of the medical communityincluding basic understanding of medical association organizational structure.

7.Comprehensive organizational and prioritization skills; ability to establish and meet realistic deadlines; ability to work well under pressure and make sound decisions when required.

8.Organizational sensitivity and a sense of confidentiality and discretion are required.

9.Polished interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to interact with individuals at all levels.

10.Demonstrated record of strong teamwork and collaborative skillset, particularly in strategic initiatives
