The North America Food Safety Private Brands (FSPB) Supplier Controls Manager is responsible for ensuring all sites that produce, pack, hold, or distribute private brand products or ingredients used in private brand products meet safety criteria and regulatory requirements. They work across multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure new suppliers are approved prior to first production and existing suppliers maintain their approved status or stop supplying product.
Key job responsibilities
  • Manage the new supplier onboarding program; assess risk to determine the type of onboarding required
  • Manage the supplier maintenance program; determine if risk profile has changed; identify the right level of maintenance required based on risk
  • Monitor, track and communicate progress to timelines
  • Escalate to senior leadership when suppliers do not meet requirements or miss timelines
  • Take actions to discontinue use of or stop the sale of products produced by poor performing suppliers, working cross-functionally to gain alignment and notify senior leadership
  • Create and conduct trainings for program updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Proactively identify existing process gaps; establish mechanisms where needed and provide inputs and support to close gaps to mitigate risk and increase efficiency
  • Author/contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting, including accurate metrics/data tracking against targets, and program progress against goals
  • Provide subject matter expertise to influence Supplier Controls policy, standards, program and tech roadmap
  • Ability to work off-hours to accommodate international stakeholders
A day in the life
This role ensures every private brand supplier (manufacturer, co-packer, distributor) meets Amazon's high safety and compliance bar. You will spend the bulk of your time communicating with business partners to track new/changes to sites and overseeing our third party auditing companies to ensure audits are conducted timely and with high quality. You will also help to continuously improve our programs by proposing, getting approval for and implementing changes (e.g. updating our audit standards).
About the team
The North America Food Safety Private Brands team provides food safety and regulatory expertise to design, commercialize, and maintain Amazon branded food products including pet food and dietary supplements. Our programs identify and manage food safety and compliance risk end-to-end, from site selection to ASIN approval and post-sales monitoring. The team is comprised of four sub-teams that cover 1) product-level food safety and regulatory compliance, 2) supplier-level food safety and compliance, 3) investigations and recalls, and 4) other compliance functions such as sustainability and food contact packaging compliance.

  • Master's degree in food science, or a related field

  • Collaboration: ability to work across PB stakeholders, International stakeholders, WFM and Legal to meet deliverables

  • Data Acumen: ability to look at the data and find gaps in compliance or areas for improvement
  • Think Big: generate ideas for how to solve systemic problems within policy, standards, program or tech

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $59,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $142,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
