POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

This position offers hybrid opportunity.

The Computer Scientist Autonomy/Software Engineer/Robotics will support the development of Computer Vision and Machine Learning for Naval Information Warfare Command (NIWC) Pacific’s RESTORE Laboratory. The RESTORE is a Navy Laboratory focused research and development to support C5ISR system sustainment and modernization.

• Research, develop, implement, and test new capabilities for both aerial and ground based systems
• Use ROS to develop autonomous navigation stack for ground based vehicles like Boston Dynamic’s SPOT 
• Use unmanned platforms and payload sensors to develop and implement routines/mission plans as well as localization and mapping capabilities 
• Debug ROS packages and sensors 
• Use Mavlink or similar to develop custom mission planning for aerial drone platforms to execute data acquisition objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• A functional knowledge of Python and common libraries (e.g. comfortable with writing functions, classes, loops, etc. and using Anaconda or Python virtual environments)
• Proven oral/written communication skills and documentation habits
• Pursuant to the Government Contract, you must be a U.S. Citizen.
