Responsibilities

About you:

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Procurement and Supply Chain will be responsible for strengthening the procurement function for ALS. S/he will lead the Global Procurement Organization and will have a number of regional managers report to him/her. Broadly, the scope of responsibilities includes, but not limited to:

Buildout and operation of the Procurement Organization

  • Lead the global procurement organization and develop and implement standardized procurement practices and procedures globally, ultimately leading to a streamlined “one-organization” structure.
  • Source and engage reliable suppliers and vendors. Build, maintain and improve relationships with existing suppliers, ensuring state-of-the-art contracts, creating transparency, driving make-or-buy decisions, where appropriate, reducing costs, with particular focus on reliable, cost-effective sourcing.
  • Provide annual and long-term strategic sourcing plans for all relevant consumables, freight and logistics, insurance and other services, and CAPEX / Maintenance.
  • Manage procurement contracts in line with company policies and compliance requirements.
  • Perform risk assessments on potential contracts and agreements.
  • Negotiate with vendors to secure advantageous terms and build strong supplier-customer relationship.
  • Establish and oversee procurement budget and provide regular procurement forecasting including risk and opportunity analysis.
  • Manage and coach effective cross-regional teams within the procurement organization at all sites. Ensure integration and strong collaboration of all the regional centers (e.g., US, Canada, Europe, LATAM etc.)
  • Drive process harmonization across the production sites as appropriate, including best-practice implementation and development.
  • Set respective KPIs and ensure adherence, performance measurement and target achievement.
  • Hiring/education/training a motivated workforce: Build and maintain a high performing procurement organization.

Lead Transformation Efforts

  • Ensure continuous performance improvements, including respective annual cost savings.
  • Define and implement ERP requirements with respect to procurement (and integration to supply chain).
  • Support cross-functional projects and closely coordinate with other key functions, e.g., Supply chain, laboratories, field operations, sales/customer service, project management, etc.
