Alliance for Community Empowerment Inc is Hiring a Community Violence Intervention Community Intervention Worker Near Canoga Park, CA

Intervention: In 2015, ACE assumed responsibility for the City of LA’s West Valley (Devonshire-Topanga) Gang Reduction/Youth Development (GRYD) program. This program serves young adults, ages 16-24, who are gang affected or otherwise at risk of gang involvement. Through outreach activities and incident response, the program promotes community-level peacemaking and violence reduction. Through a phased program of participant engagement, potentially leading to cycles of family case management services, the program works to strengthen participants' family ties and other pro-social influences.
Position: The Community Intervention Worker is responsible for providing services to participants in the Intervention program. This position will provide intervention services for Family Case Management (FCM) Model and Transitional Client Services (TCS) participants. This position will work closely together with Intervention Case Managers to better assist Intervention participants. This individual will be primarily responsible for intervention services to participants but will also be involved with all aspects of the program including intake, case management, and making appropriate referrals as needed. The position will be responsible for peacemaking, incident response, and act as a liaison within the community for those organizations servicing Intervention participants.

  • Demonstrates cultural competence/cultural humility in community relations and service delivery
  • Is sensitive to community, cultural and personal dignity of program participants and is able to successfully engage, assess, and plan services for participants typical of the program’s target population. Recognizes appropriate boundaries and limitations on interactions with program participants and their families and the need to maintain professional standards and practices. Is familiar with standard approaches to accurate participant record keeping, including timely charting, notation formats, content limitations, and confidentiality practices.
  • Possesses knowledge of programs, regulations, and procedures regarding human services, social services, justice, and workforce development.
  • Cultural understanding of the marginalized West Valley communities.
  • Knowledge of gang environment/dynamics within the geographic area.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attends and participates in all mandatory meetings.
  • Fosters positive relationships with community members, partner organizations and local gangs.
  • Participate in cultural and community building activities/events.
  • Works to incorporate into organizational culture best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care.
  • Responsible for supporting all assigned clients by identifying key measurable short-term goals & objectives. 
  • Performs outreach and marketing duties to recruit participants and educate the community on ACE Services.
  • Carries out intake and eligibility determinations and makes appropriate referrals when the applicant is not eligible for ACE services; conducts participant assessments leading to enrollment; completes and updates participant service plans.
  • Arranges and participates in participants’ family meetings, service meetings, team meetings, etc. and coordinates wrap-around services with other providers; provides transportation of participants to meet program goals.
  • Organizes, coordinates, prepares, and delivers skills-based workshops for participants.
  • Enters data into participant databases; assists in the writing of periodic program reports.
  • Assists and works closely with participant’s Care Manager.
  • Works closely with Program Manager to develop strategic plans to recruit potential Intervention participants, reduce violence within the community, and conduct events.
  • Serves as neutral liaison between gang member and community.
  • Participates in all Intervention events and facilitates workshops including Summer Night Lights.
  • Deploys to incidents as directed by Intervention Program Manager to provide peacemaking, rumor control, and reducing tensions. Deployment is within the West Valley and can include hospitals, crime scenes, LAPD, etc).
  • Reduce gang violence by reducing tensions, developing peace treaties, rumor control, community canvassing, conflict resolution, intervention services, holding pro-social activities/events.
  • Serves as a point of contact in addressing community violence issues and provides the necessary resource, to assist those involved.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout facilities.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl to provide services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent community intervention experience
  • Prefered but not required: Previous justice-involvement 
  • Formal gang intervention training (e.g. LAVITA) preferred
  • Spanish language skills, verbal and written preferred
  • Possess a current California Driver’s License, clean DMV record & adequate auto insurance. 
  • Must submit to a Department of Justice Criminal background check 
  • Initial TB employment clearance required

The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $60,000 to $63,000 annually. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
