Alfred State College announces an 18-month grant funded position beginning with the spring 2023 semester. The Coordinator of BIPOC Scholars and College Transition Specialist is a live-on position responsible for assisting in the recruitment, enrollment, and support of underrepresented minority students into the Alfred State community and our Opportunity Programs. Coordinator of Transition and Achievement (BIPOC) will also be responsible for assisting in early arrival of our Opportunity program students, their community development, and leading a mentorship program for the BIPOC Male Scholar.
The Coordinator of BIPOC Scholars and College Transition Specialist will actively engage in recruitment efforts including travelling to off campus events, escorting prospective students to Alfred for campus visits, planning activities for overnight visits, and participating in open house programs and accepted student days. The position will assist in the enrollment process for prospective students and their families.
The Coordinator of Transition and Achievement (BIPOC) will work closely with the campus Opportunity Programs to plan the summer support program, engage in programming and community development within the residential space, and assist in students' transition to the academic year. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Student Success Center in scheduling academic support services for participants in the Scholars Program and with Career Development to assist their students in job readiness and on campus job placements.
The Coordinator of Transition and Achievement (BIPOC) will coordinate, develop, and lead the BIPOC Male Scholars program by developing workshops and events. In collaboration with all appropriate departments, they will generate a schedule of events and workshops to be shared with the scholars, and they will lead appropriate outreach to encourage scholars to attend all scheduled activities and meetings.
