Alfred State announces current vacancies for Residence Directors for the 2024-25 academic year.

The Residence Directors are 10-month live-in non-permanent appointment positions that include weekend and evening hours and the completion of on-duty coverage which provides campus oversight for all residence halls. Successful candidates will be highly collaborative but will also have the skills needed to make decisions independently. Residence Directors will know their residents and provide personal, social, academic, and occupational support and referrals.

Residence Directors are responsible for the coordination and implementation of the residential curriculum which include selection, training, and supervision of a residential student staff, community development within the living-learning environment, residence hall governance. Residence Directors serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and administrators regarding college policies in residence halls across the campus, along with the enforcement of community standards, the student code of conduct and other aspects of the disciplinary process. They are also responsible for the administration of college policies and residence hall operations, including opening and closing activities, demonstration of professionalism in interactions with other campus constituencies as well as guests of the college. They also will have responsibilities with the promotion of campus activities and student/faculty initiatives. Residence Directors will focus on relationship building and student interaction daily with hall residents and serve as a visible and accessible resource in the residence hall community for student interaction.

Some of our Residence Directors serve as Program Coordinators throughout the Division of Student Affairs where they receive programmatic experiences ranging from: planning, program management, administration, program and event implementation, and assessment. These roles provide our Residence Directors the opportunity to gain a wide breadth of experiences and develop Student Affairs competencies in addition to those developed in Residential Life. Some of our Residence Directors will serve in the Student Conduct Office, the Office of Civic Engagement, and College Housing.

The Residential Life team is a part of the Residential Services department within the Division of Student Affairs at Alfred State. It is composed of a dedicated, student-oriented group of professionals who create an environment conducive to learning about oneself, community, and society. We provide learning opportunities, skill development, and personal contacts that foster a successful, well-balanced, and fulfilling life experience for the students of Alfred State and our community.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's prepared candidates.
  • Prior experience in Residential Life is preferred.
  • Successful candidates will have a positive outlook and a student-centered approach.

The starting salary for this position is $36,421.
