Air Liquide USA LLC is Hiring an Electrical Engineer Near Houston, TX

Air Liquide Large Industries provides our customers with industrial gas and energy solutions that are vital to their own industrial production. We own and operate over 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the U.S. supplying mainly oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and syngas in large quantities from multiple production sources to major customers in the chemicals, petrochemicals, refining and steel industries. Our pipeline operations and industrial gas production facilities are closely monitored 24/7 within our leading-edge operations control center located in Houston, Texas. Our operations control group monitors over 89,000 data points and assists with product supply and coordination. We are constantly optimizing our supply network to provide high reliability and energy efficiencies allowing Air Liquide to adjust supply needs more quickly and effectively enabling growth to our customers.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?Electrical Engineering is recognized within Air Liquide as a Core Technology and is expected to provide in house expertise on all electrical matters. This position operates on a North American basis for operations and projects support.
Air Liquide Large Industries is actively seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to be located in Houston, TX.
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance support of electrical power distribution systems, including high voltage substations, transformers, switchgear, motors, motor control centers, lighting, grounding, electrical wiring, and hazardous area classification.

  • Provide electrical engineering support for Air Liquide America operating plants and perform electrical engineering for small projects execution

  • Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Production, and Project Managers. Establishes standards, national agreements, supplier agreements, electrical safety, system protection and provides all electrical engineering services for the support of small projects, Operations and Production facilities

  • Responsible for Project Electrical Engineering on Projects; estimating, designing, calculations, codes, engineering, budgeting, scheduling interface, specifying, inspecting, check out, and start up of electrical system

  • Provides technical oversight and review of project engineering work performed by external resources in support of the development and implementation of small electrical projects.

  • Perform electrical calculations, relay settings, engineers, and preliminarily designs small to medium capital improvement projects.

  • Reviews project design documents (i.e. design summary documents, equipment, material and services specifications, calculations and drawings) prepared by external engineering consultants for compliance to Air Liquide Design Engineering Guides and Standards, standard utility practices, contract requirements and accurate inclusion of project scope details.

  • Provides technical input and documentation to Project Management's requests to obtain services from external engineering consultants. Technical input/documentation will take the form of one-line diagrams, preliminary project design descriptions, planning document summaries, equipment ratings, etc.

  • Reviews equipment, material and services bids, proposals and quotes for technical considerations and makes recommendations on award to Project Managers and Supply Chain.

  • Supports Project Management during the construction phase of projects by resolving technical and engineering problems, and coordinating needed input from the external engineering consultants.

  • Confers with planners, E&C Service engineers, customers, and other Air Liquide functional groups to ensure that project engineering activities are customer focused, results orientated and performance driven.

  • Participates as a member in project teams to advise the project manager on electrical designs.

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on industrial electrical power distribution systems, including: stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, motor starting, power factor, harmonic analysis and other related studies.

  • Perform all phases of protection engineering including tasks such as: develop and maintain system models, calculate available fault current and circuit breaker interrupting duty, determine and issue relay settings, maintain complete records of settings and calculations, etc.

  • Assist with engineering studies and investigations and assists with preparing oral and written reports.

  • Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

  • Participate in improving the electrical safety program for Air Liquide.

  • Attend conferences and seminars as appropriate to share ideas and issues with other industry protection engineers, keep abreast of the latest developments, advance the state of protective relaying, and promote the interests of Air Liquide.

  • Provide technical guidance to operating plants from a corporate level on Local, National, & International Codes, Standards, Policies, and Procedures

Accountabilities:

  • 100% compliance with ALA safety and environmental standards

  • Assigned small projects and action items

  • You will be expected to review and check all assigned project electrical installation drawings (one-line diagrams, electrical equipment location drawings, plan drawings, details, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.) for compliance with all company and project instructions.

  • Electrical Asset Life Extension programs

  • Compliance with all ALA and government regulations

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required

  • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

  • Understanding of medium/high voltage motors and distribution systems

  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEC, ISA, NEC, IEEE, etc.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • 5-10 years in industrial electrical design and/or operations.

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft office application

  • Ability to work with other engineering groups within Company, utilize Company's engineering computer tools and quickly become familiar with Company's electric system, construction methods and design standards.
