Job Description

Job Summary:

As a senior geotechnical engineer, you will work with our Salt Lake City geotechnical group, as well as interdisciplinary groups from Salt Lake City and other offices, to deliver consulting services on rewarding infrastructure projects. Our geotechnical group has an immediate need for an experienced, energetic Senior Geotechnical Engineer to take on a leadership role in our geotechnical engineering practice. You will have the opportunity to direct and manage projects for a variety of facilities and coordinate with a broad range of other disciplines within AECOM.

Our group provides geotechnical services in a variety of sectors, primarily being dams and levees; however, we work side-by-side other disciplines within AECOM, which may involve working in other sectors, including civil works, transportation, mining, and energy. You will have opportunities to work on local, national, and international projects, engaging in project life cycles from planning and site investigation through detailed design and construction.

You should have experience in supervising and training staff in geotechnical engineering tasks, including investigations, analyses, reporting, and construction. You will serve as a technical advisor for our team, analyzing complex problems and guiding solutions to challenging geotechnical issues. You will take on project leadership roles in our geotechnical engineering practice, working closely with our junior and entry-level staff to complete project work, lead proposal efforts, and manage scope, schedule and budget. You will perform quality control, review of design calculations or drawings, interact with internal and external clients, and assist with hiring efforts from time to time. You will mentor younger engineers and connect staff with experts throughout AECOM.

You will be supported as you continue to develop your career as a geotechnical engineer. You will engage in developing technical expertise, managing projects, leading teams, supporting active project pursuits, and contributing to business development. You should also anticipate training and development as a project manager and immediately lead geotechnical projects or geotechnical components of large projects—in charge of scope, schedule and budget.

AECOM offers a competitive compensation and benefits package and is invested in the well-being and professional development of its employees.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :

  • Assume responsibility for projects, follow quality procedures and strive for quality and excellence in all work products, and perform work in an honest and ethical manner

  • Plan, perform, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including subsurface investigations, field and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials

  • Plan, oversee installation, monitor, and analyze associated data from geotechnical instrumentation

  • Perform and/or support junior and mid-level engineers in completing geotechnical engineering calculations, analysis, and design; preparing geotechnical recommendations; writing and reviewing technical reports; and preparing and reviewing design drawings and specifications

  • Provide onsite field support and oversight for geotechnical and earthwork construction

  • Perform and/or support junior engineers in completing engineering reviews of existing infrastructure facilities, and preparing associated technical reports and evaluations

  • Effectively and proactively communicate with geotechnical and interdisciplinary team members, and exercise engineering judgement, to complete project objectives and meet client needs
