Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Construction Manager (Aviation) to be based in San Diego, CA.
Position Summary:
Provides guidance to employees within the latitude of established policies
Establishes procedures that affect immediate organization
Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including understanding of current business trends
Acts as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems
May have budget responsibilities
Erroneous decision or failure to achieve results adds to costs and may impact short-term goals of organization
Oversees the administration of projects during the construction cycle including technical, financial, and client satisfaction
Accountable for the development, coordination, and execution of the planning, design and/or construction management activities and personnel under individual's direction on a day-to-day
The Construction Manager reports to the ADC Senior Construction Manager
The Construction Manager is expected to coordinate and track multiple project activities concurrently, independently perform the full range of duties and responsibilities of the class and supervise and train field inspectors during each phase of construction. The role requires technical knowledge, a diplomatic demeanor, and a proactive approach to problem solving. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Promote a Safety First approach in all matters and zero approach to accidents on projects and contractor safety plan
Act as overall liaison between the Authority and General Contractors on specialized, multi-disciplined airport construction projects, including job site construction inspection
Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and manage multi-disciplinary work efforts
Oversee validation of products and materials ordered for projects to verify their conformance to specifications
Monitor and assess construction performance and record construction activities to ensure compliance with construction documents
Communicate effectively with project manager, project sponsor, stakeholders, employees, management, and General Contractor
Maintain project documentation through review of Construction Inspectors’ daily status reports; chart progress of contract schedules via regularly scheduled meetings; review, ensure utilization of shop drawing submittals; process and ensure incorporation of RFI’s; review contractor change orders and make recommendations for changes; incorporate change orders
Review appropriate portions of contractor pay application for accuracy with contractual requirements and actual work completed
Facilitate pre-bid, pre-construction, and regularly scheduled construction meetings
Assist in training and providing technical expertise and guidance to Construction Inspectors
Review punch list submitted by the Construction Inspector and verify that items on the punch list have been completed and corrected prior to authorizing substantial completion to General Contractor
Manage jobsite Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
Work closely with the Safety Manager to facilitate the highest level of safety in and around the work site
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
A California Class C driver’s license and the ability to meet driver qualification criteria under the Authority’s SAN Fleet Authorized Drivers Program
Successful clearance of background check and drug/alcohol screening is a perquisite working at the airport
Night/weekend work will be required
Preferred Qualifications:
10 years Construction Manager of experience focused on construction management with technical emphasis on civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical principles and disciplines involved in complex construction projects; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Site development experience is highly desired
Construction management experience in a medium or large airport is preferred
QSP or QSD certification preferred
Cal OSHA 30-hour Construction training
Additional Information
Offered rate of compensation ([insert state] locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $123,000 - $225,000/yr.
